DEBONAIR LOOK OF SPRING Dick Reader's Store for Men presents two models depicting new trends in man's wardrobe styles for spring, 1963. Gone Favell models a new Society Brand suit with Dobbs hat and Bostonian shoes as accessories. His son, Doug, follows the "right look" in a red blazer by Tom Sawyer with contrasting slacks. Sport Shiris Sport Stripes Slripcs make major fashion news in men's shiris for spring and summer. Ranging from the big, broad, bold British stripes in deep shades of blue, gray, brown and red, the new shirts are also available in nar rower stripes and pin stripes. Next news note is the "look ot more collar." A bit higher, a mite fuller in the cape and a little wider in the spread, those styles have a dressier look without sac rificing summer comfort. Add the popular tabs, button- downs and moderate spread col lar styles plus the very loiv "vanishing band" styles and your fashion range is complete. Any and all of those styles arc made in short as well as Ion,; sleeves to meet the demands of all men for warm weather comfort. Sport shirts come up in an even wider array of fashion than usual this year. The "Nautical Look" so popular last year is due for a return engagement with no diminishing of its popularity in sight. The salty motif shows up in knits as well as cut-and-sewn shirts, and the styling is authentic enough lo suit the most ardent sailor. Broad British stripes score in sport shirts as well as in dress shirts. In addition to t h e other color, they include rich bright stripes in signal-flag hues. The "Western" or "Ranch Hear" influence is evident in the design and fabrics of the sport shirts keyed to those worn by the real cowhands. Pointed pock et flaps, yoked fronts and backs, fancy buttons and fancy cuffs distinguish the Westerns. For those who prefer sleek so phisticated styling, there are up dated Continental collared shirts with Italian-type design cueing their tailoring. Men's Slacks Slim, Trim Trim, slim and comfortable describes the look in new men's slacks for spring. Both belt loop styles and self-supporting models share the fashion spotlight, with pleatless and singlcpleat styles dividing the honors. For early spring, lightweight worsted flannels, gabardines and bengalenes set the pace. With! warmer weather, look for tropical weights, wash-wears. Grays, olive - tans, pewter, shades and variations on the new yellow tones called "Banana" will be among the most wanted spring and summer colors. There is also a big swing to whites, especially in the wash-wear types. DEEP TONES STAND OUT Amid spring's pale pastels and dazzling whites, deep colors have a special impact. Classic navv. lighter and brighter, becomes fashion news. Dark, autumnal browns make a spring appear ance. Deep-hued dresses flash un der pale coats and dark blouses accompany light suits. Suits Feature Lighter Gray A major fashion trend is in the making, reports the American Institute of .Men s and Boys Wear. For close to 10 years, men's suits regardless of mod-; els have been dominated by dark colors. Starting with blacks and navy blues, they rarely got as light as what might be described as brighter than medium tones However, for one of those in explicable reasons that turn un popular greens into much-wanted olives or cause college men to dress like cowpokes, style lead ers herald this year as the year they are going to brighten up their wardrobes light silvery grays. The most-wanted light grays will be in smooth, sleek shark Topcoats Go To 'Suiting Weights' Keyed to the mild days of the vernal season, the new spring toppers are made of "suiting weight" fabrics. For instance, there are trim but tough sharkskins, sophisticat ed naiiheads, houndstooth checks and sporty glen plaids woven of fine worsted yarns. Then, of course, there are the soft, luxurious cashmeres, cash mere blends and camel hairs. The natural tan camel tones, in cidentally, are making a strong comeback. These, too, are in the light color trend, as well as in the new lightweight swing. Natural-shoulder devotees will get their topcoat kicks from subt ly colored shetlands and cheviots, as well as from classic coverts. Most of these will be in the tra ditional, fly-front, slightly fitted chesterfield models. Starting in the natural-shoulder field, but now branching out into the other groups as well, is an other revival the reversible top coat. Made with a topcoat tweed on one side and reversing to a raincoat poplin on the other, the stylish turncoat is great for tra vel, campus and sportswear. Regular raincoats are ready to shed spring rains with new water proof finishes. skins. Some of them will be in the plain classics, others will have neat glen plaids, and still others Hill have nailhead pat terns and fine checks. Medium shades, light-mediums. dark-mediums and darks are not dead by a long shot, but the fashion philosophy is that instead of relying solely on the deep darks, men should again take advantage of the lift offered by refreshing lights. As far as models are con cerned, suit interest for the spring of '63 will be heightened by natural-shoulder and tailored treat ments of the new two-button mod el and a trimly tailored one-button style with restrained details. It has a slightly fitted waist and is one of the few current styles made without vents. It's a good warm weather model, smart but not sharp. In fabrics, the choice is as wide as ever. For spring, there is a handsome collection of mid weights. These are lighter than regular weights but not as light as tropicals. When the warm weather sets in, tropical weights in pure worsteds, featherweight polyester - worsted blends, and wash-wear fabrics of cottons and cotton blends round out the pic ture. Silks and silk blends, and mo hairs and mohair blends also hold an important place in the spring summer scene. These are the dressy "special occasion" suits whose lustre sets them apart from a fellow s work-a-day out fits. In all suits, look for modest, restrained patternings ranging from solid colors to stripes, checks, plaids and self-weaves.
