Both were put into operation in early 1962 and currently house the major portion of the company's basic operation in this area. BRONZE PLAQUE This is the plaque which was unveiled at the John C. Boyle dam during the ceremonies of June 25, 1962. Transmission Interconnection Completed By PPL During 1962 DAM REDEDICATED The Big Bend Dam on the Klamath River was officially re named on Feb. 3, 1962, the John C. Boyle Dam in honor of the vice president and general manager and chief engineer of the California Oregon Power Company. The House Committee on High ways introduced the bill which would repeal the present prima facie speed law. The bill would set a maximum speed of 70 miles per hour on state highways, and would increase present20, 25. and 53 mile zones to 25, 3D and B5. Lang also introduced a bill providing that anyone trying or threatening to commit suicide be punished by county jail imprison ment of one year, a $1,(XKI fine, or both. The Senate Agriculture Commit-1 iee submitted the farm zoning proposal. It calls for farm land to he assessed at its true caj.il value for farm use and not at the true cash value it would have if applied to other uses. Sen. Alfred Corbett, l)-Porlland, submitted the juvenile court measure. Nearly $1.5 million will be ex tended in the Klamath district this year to expand the PP&L dis tribution system and other facili ties. A major project will be com pletion of a fi9,04)O-volt loop around Klamalh Falls to provide more rapacity on the alternate supply line that links several substations serving the area. The large investment in facili ties was necessary to expand the system needed to deliver the con tinually growing amounts of elec tricity being used by our custo mers. Ritchey said. "Use of electricity lias more than trebled since the end of World War II, and the average resi dence here now uses nearly ll.DOOkilowatt hours annually. This large amount is more than double the national average," Ritchey explained. The district manager said the company's total investment in the district has grown tremendously in recent years. Since W46, Pa cific Power's construction exien ditures in the district have ex ceeded $27 million. The company is one of tiie area's largest employers, with an an nual payroll of $!l7n.00n.
