The Ashland squad averages ap proximately 6-2 in height. Maurer, who has a brother on the Southern Oregon College squad, is currently riding the number three spot in conference scoring with 125 points and a 12.5 game average. Ilartwcll is number 10 wilh a total of 69 and Peterson is 12th with 66. The Grizzley cagcrs are not noted for their scoring punch since Ihey prefer Ihe ball-control style of play. The club's ball handling and their height makes them a tough team to beat once tiiey get in front. ' The only other A I team in the state which already has won its way into the tourney is Bend, unranked in the poll. None of the other teams in the Top 10 currently have tournament berths at stake, but all have cru- jcial basketball games scheduled this weekend. What looms as one of Friday's top games w ill be played in Port land between second-ranked Grant and unranked Franklin. Grant has a 16-0 record, and the surprising Franklin Squad has won seven straight games. Another Portland League game will match tenth-ranked Roose velt. 13-3, and Washington. All Portland League teams will be idle Saturday. No. 4, Astoria, has two games rcheduled this weekend Friday at Douglas of Portland, and Saturday at Milwaukie. Astoria now has a 14-2 record. One of the most surprising teams in the state, Roseburg, will face two tough teams this weekend in an effort to keep its fifth-place ranking intact. Roseburg is 13-4. Roseburg, which zoomed into the poll last, week for the first time this season after upsetting two of the Top 10 teams, Friday night will travel to meet South Eugene, ranked No. 8. Saturday night Roseburg will be host to sixth-ranked Springfield, which has a 10-7 record. Springfield Friday night will stay at home to meet Cottage Grove. The 6-6 junior scored 47 points for Seattle last night in a 99-6!) victory over Kegis of Denver. That makes 654 points in 19 games. Oscar Piobertson of Cincinnati has scored 633 points in 19 games for a 33.3 average.
