Leaving for Europe with the Eighth Infantry Division is Pvt. Robert W. Wales, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Wales of Mount Shasta. Friendship Night The Cascade Crest Chapter No. 159, O.E.S. of Chiloquin will observe Friendship Night October 3 at 8 p.m. All Eastern Star members are in vited to attend. Mount Shasta The Community Methodist Church held its first family night of the season on Sep- Wheat Plan Deadline Set Friday, October 5, is the last day for Klamath County wheat farmers to sign up for participa tion in the winter wheat acreage reserve part of the Soil Bank pro gram. Spring wheat growers may also sign agreements at this time. The acreage reserve program is for those farms with 1957 wheat allotments. Under this program, farmers may cam soil bank pay ments by reducing their wheat acreage below their allotment. The land designated as acreage re serve must be retired from pro duction for the entire year. The payment is based on the normal yield per acre of the des ignated acreage multiplied by the acreage reserve unit price for wheat which is $1.15 per bushel in Klamath County. Klamath County has been allq cated $36,137 for the winter wheat program, and will receive an ad ditional allocation for the spring wheat program. Spring wheat growers may either sign agree ments now or next year sometime prior to planting. Additional information may be obtained at the Klamath County ASC office which is located in' the Tower Theater Building. Sprague River Men Now At OTI SPRAGUE RIVER-Six Sprague River men are enrolled at Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls this term. They include Phil lip Tupper, first year carpentry; Irwin Crume, second year auto mechanics: Jackie Barney, and Vince Bodner Jr., first year auto mechanics. Marlin Wilson, first year farm technology . and Bobby Barney, second year commercial art, have moved their families to the cam pus. The others make' the daily drive to Klamath Falls and re turn. FINAL RITES ' MOUNT SHASTA - Services were held last week for Mrs. Katie Margaret Steagall, 62, who died in the Mount Shasta Hospital after a long illness. A native of Minnesota, she had lived in Mount Shasta for 13 years. Her widower, James J. Steagall, survives. tember 29 with Mrs. A. B. Cooper heading the supper committee. Weekend Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Blohm in Malin were Blohm's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Blohm of Eugene and his brother, Dick Blohm of San Francisco. Visiting in Malin at the Mervyn Wilde s home is Wilde s mother, Mrs. S. G. Murphy of Bend. Alaska Duty Sgt. Lee H. Stew ard, whose wife lives in Malin, has just been to Alaska as a mem ber of the Army's 2nd Infantry Division. , Drive Starts The United Fund drive started today in Bonanza, Langell Valley, Dairy and Hilde- brand with Mrs. Bob Schmor as chairman. She has large com mittee assisting her for the area. Dairy Mrs. Paul Hackett en tertained on September 14 at her new home in Dairy. Mrs. Peggy Peebles of Klamath Falls demon strated a cooking line to 21 guests. Vlsitini Mrs. Mattie Patterson and son, Ellis of Orcutt, Califor nia, arrived in Dairy on Septem ber 19 to visit her sister-in-law, Mrs. Sarah Michael. Mrs. James M. Good of Eureka is also a guest, From Salem Mr. and Mrs. George Woods of Salem are visit- ing their son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Woods of Dairy. Charles Buroughs of Dairy is ill in a Klamath Falls hospital. No visitors are allowed. Sprague River Mr. and Mrs. Mario Carnini were recent guests of her son and family. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Clauss in Medford. They attended the wedding of her niece, Shirley Boitano and Eugene Gam- bee of Portland. The couple plan to continue shool at the Univer sity of Washington. Anna Barney daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Barney of Sprauge River, left last week to start her junior year at St. Mary's School for Girls at Beaverton. Everett Decker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hill, is attending St. Mary's School for Boys at Beaverton.
