Wheat Plan
Deadline Set
Friday, October 5, is the last
day for Klamath County wheat
farmers to sign up for participa
tion in the winter wheat acreage
reserve part of the Soil Bank pro
gram. Spring wheat growers may
also sign agreements at this time.
The acreage reserve program is
for those farms with 1957 wheat
allotments. Under this program,
farmers may cam soil bank pay
ments by reducing their wheat
acreage below their allotment. The
land designated as acreage re
serve must be retired from pro
duction for the entire year.
The payment is based on the
normal yield per acre of the des
ignated acreage multiplied by
the acreage reserve unit price for
wheat which is $1.15 per bushel
in Klamath County.
Klamath County has been allq
cated $36,137 for the winter wheat
program, and will receive an ad
ditional allocation for the spring
wheat program. Spring wheat
growers may either sign agree
ments now or next year sometime
prior to planting.
Additional information may be
obtained at the Klamath County
ASC office which is located in' the
Tower Theater Building.
