Combine 1 can (1V4 cups) con densed consomme, J'4 cups toma to juice, 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish, 1 teaspoon grated onion. Chill and stir well before serving. Make yours now while grapes are at their best. Goblets Of Grape Jelly You know how every year you resolve that you'll have all your holiday gifts ready ahead of time? Then, somehow, October slips by, November races to the past and another hectic Christmas Eve is upon you. How about keeping the resolution this year by starting right now?- We have a suggestion which should take care of a large part of your gift list. Fill pretty crystal water goblets with homemade grape jelly, decorate them with ribbons and artificial grapes and present them in pairs on tiny silver trays or in larger quanti ties in beribboned baskets. Not only will this clear, spark ling spread make an attractive gift but it should prove a most welcome one since it is one of the nation's most popular jellies. Concord grapes, which make the best jelly, will be at their best during the next several weeks, an other reason for getting to work right away. And, really, you'll find it less work than fun, if you heed the following pointers: POINTERS FOR JELLY MAKING 1. Fruits should be fresh, just ripe or a little under ripe." 2. To obtain a clear jelly, alow juice to drip through cheese cloth bag; do not squeeze bag when ex tracting the juice. A second ex traction of juice may be made by squeezing the bag; the jelly resulting from it may have a slightly cloudy appearance. 3. The "jellying" p o i n t is reached when two large drops will form along the edge ot the spoon, one on either side. When these two drops come together and fall as one drop, the jelly is ready. 4. Best results are achieved when 4 to 6 cups of juice are pre pared at a time. 5. Jelly should be cooked quick ly at a full, rolling boil to pre- serve color and flavor. 6. Sugar in jellies, jams and pre serves is needed as a preservative as well as a sweetening agent. CRAPE JELLY 4 lbs. grapes (2 guarts pulp) 1 cup water 5 cups sugar 1 tablespoon lemon juice Wash, stem and crush grapes. Add water. Boil slowly, about IS minutes. Strain juice by allowing to drip through a jelly bag or a colander lined with several layers of cheese cloth. (Note: By squeez ing pulp in bag, an additional pint of jelly may be obtained. Though possibly cloudy in appearance, it will be similar to first extraction.) Add sugar. Boil rapidly until jellying stage is reached. Pour into jelly glasses, seal with paraf fin and cap. Yield: 114 pints first extraction, 1 pint second extraction. Bathroorri Remodeling Careful attention should be given the choice of color when redecor ating or modernizing an old bath room, says the Plumbing Fixture Manufacturers Association. Color can make a bathroom appear spa cious or crowded, cluttered or neat, warm or cold. Usually, the choice of fixture, accessory, and wall colors will de pend on whether the bathroom is large or small. A small bath needs light colors to create the illusion of spacious ness and to make the ceiling seem higher. Use the same color on the walls, window trim, and doors. A large bathroom will appear to shrink when dark colors are used. Dark shades also make a ceiling appear lower. The color of the door and window frames may contrast with the walls in a large bath. Despite the size of .the room. don't use more .than three bright colors. Because pjumbing fixtures come in soft pastel shades they can either match or blend with the main decorator color. Fixtures are available in colors such as pink, deep red, green, blue, gray, suntan, yellow, ivory and white. Pink is the most popular fixture color among home owners. Blue and green are close seconds and gray is next in popularity. THE DRESS, not the pos ture, is recommended for campus, career or casual living. FRESH PEACH JELLYCAKE Use pineapple flavored gelatin or plain gelatin using pineapple juice for the liquid. For an 8-inch square cake pan you'll need to use two packages of the flavored gelatin. Fill the pan about 1-3 full of the gelatin mixture, place 4a the re frigerator to chill, -reserving the remainder of the gelatin at room temperature. Slice two large fresh peaches and arrange on the chilled gelatin. Pour the remaining gela tin over the peaches and return the pan to the refrigerator until the gelatin has set. Unmold and serve with sweetened whipped cream and peach slices. LUNCHBOXES Remember that a Iunchbox should supply a nourishing, inter esting noontime meal. Select sand wich fillings with care, choosing those which "keep" well during the morning hours. Vary them from day to day. If a lettuce leaf or tomato slice is to go into the sandwich, wrap it separately to keep it crisp. Be sure sandwiches are always made with enriched bread, which assures your youngster three B vitamins and food iron. If you have a reliable thermos, you can pack hot beverages, soups, chili or stews. Small plastic containers enable you to include fruit or gelatin salads. Every so often, tuck a sur prise into the lunch box frosted cupcake, wrapped hard candies or a favorite fruit. Making peanut butter sandwich es to go into a Iunchbox? Give the spread a new flavor by sweeten ing it with honey.
