UUh (UP) A California uranium prospector missing aince Tuesday hiked 60 ' miles into a remota southern Utah Civil Aeronautics Administration station last night and reported both he and the helicopter he had been flying wera all right. Balloons carrying research ap paratus climbed 23 miles into the stratosphere to record the mys terious cosmic artillery. Scientific reports were also awaited from areas as remote as Admiral Rich ard Byrd's expedition near the South Pole. Physicists at the University of Chicago, who first announced the solar bombardment, aaid there was no danger to human beings. However, Interference with tel evision and radio reception and deadening of the trans-Atlantic telephone is possible, they said It Is even conceivable that TV sets in the Midwest could suddenly pick, up programs originating in Europe. The cosmic ray bombardment started Wednesday, 30 minutes after a mammoth blast of fiery gases on the sun, possibly equal to the force of a million hydrogen bombs. The giant flare on the sun was the fifth of Its kind on record and the cosmic bombardment was the greatest since scientists began studying the mysterious rays. Scientists at Chicago said cos mic rays were hitting the earth and zipping through everything at the rate of 3000 a minute 15 times the usual rate. An even greater Intensity was recorded at Climax.
