Oregon Counties Receive Money SALEM I Oregon counties were given S2.S35.556 Thursday as their 19 per cent share of state highway revenues during the last three months of 1955. The apportionment, made by Secretary of State Earl T. Ncwbry, Is based on the number of vehicles registered in each county. The state collected $14,923,919 from highway sources, including $9,541,471 from gasoline taxes, $3,- . 21,660 in -truck transportation taxes, $2,008,740 from sales of license- plates, and $127,117 from traffic fines. In 1953, an esti mated 236,630 cars were stolen and 83. per cent were recovered, leav ing 13,81$, valued at some 14 mil lion dollars. In 1952. the net loss was 16,364 automobiles valued at more than 17 million dollars. Part of this decrease may he the result of a similar series of conferences held during 1952. Dur ing that year there were 131 auto theft conferences throughout the country which were attended Hy 8.707 individuals representing 3,121 agencies, mis coming year a con ferences will follow the same pat tern as the 1952 series and also others held during the succeeding years. There were 133 conferences in 1953 on thefts from Interstate ship ment. These were attended by S.702 prsons representing 4.159 agencies.
