The purpose presumably is to try to demonstrate that lor coun tries vulnerable to Soviet power an. alliance with the United States is a hazardous association. This strategy is one ot the prob lems of cold war planning with which Secretary of State Dulles and other U.S. leaders must deal in the months ahead. They were res- Gift Waits First Child MOUNT SHASTA A complete layette, gift of the Mount Shasta Cuamber of Commerce and Mount Shasta merchants, awaits the first child to be born in the Mount Shasta Hospital which will open its doors January 1, The hospital, which had been Inactive since early summer, was recently purchased by six Siskiyou County doctors. Dr. H L. Vidrick sen of Weed Is acting chairman until Incorporation Is complete. Bed patients will not be admitted at the Weed Hospital after Janu ary 1, but clinical offices will be maintained at the Weed Hospital. Yule Program To Be Held CHILOQUIN As customary, th Chiloquln grade school will pre sent a Christmas program for the Parent Teachers Association. The event is scheduled for tonight, Mon day evening, December 19, at the high school gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. and will be the most elabor ate program for many years. The two first grades will give a Christmas tree drill; the second grades are planning a musical skit, "Christmas NHht." the third grade will give a "Deck the Halls'' folk dance and sing a round, "Christ mas Is Coming." . The combined fourth, filth and sixth grades, un der the direction of Mrs. Rohlni pheiffer, will sing carols and pan tomime the Christmas story with background music. There was 36 inches of snow on the '.round yesterday. Parts of North ern Minnesota measured 25 inches of snow on the ground. Probe Of Hunting Death Set An investigation Into the acci- dental shooting of a Shasta Valley, California, hunter near the Oregon! border Sunday has been launched by the Cahlornia Department of : Fish and Came. i The victim, Edgar Goerlilr. 33- year-old ranch worker, was shot in the back on Stateline Road early Sunday morning. He died two hours later in Klamath Valley Hos pital. . Dr. George -H. Adler, Klamath County coroner, said Harvey Tref ry, 33, lumber worker, was hold ing the gun that fatally wounded Goerlitz. Dr. Adler explained that his investigation showed that Goer- liiz bumped into Trefry and the shotgun accidentally discharged. The wounded man was brought to Klamath Falls in a Kaler ambulance.
