Lake will be poisoned nd restocked, with trout, the state Oame Com mission decided Saturday, A similar program tor Tenmile Lakes has been postponed indelln itely. Devils Lake in Lincoln County will be treated with rotenone in July to kill off the carp which have been depleting food supplies. Studies will be continued at Coos County's Tenmile Lakes. The com mission said it had confidence in alaff recommendations to clean out the lake "but because of other lactors involved, felt it best not to proceed with the lake!& rehabilita tion at this time." The commission , did, -,ot list these .other factors. However, there were a number of argu ments for and against poisoning ,both lakes at Friday's public hear ings here on the proposal.'.' GG Group 5 Discontinued PORTLAND W) The Oregon committee for Good Government. a Republican fund raising group outside the regular party organ ization, has been "deactivated" i spokesman said. Stanley Goodell, recently ap pointed chairman of the Republi can state "budget and finance com mittee, said that "activities of such a committee do not have any part in my planning." The "good government" commit tee, which was formed after Re publican defeats in last year's elections, has performed a valu able service by collecting a sub stantial but unannounced amount of money for political activities In the state,- a spokesman for the committee reported. , Principal organizers of the com mittee include John C. Hold Yule Meet MERRILL The Christmas meet ing of the Merrill Mariners was held the evening of December 12 at the Presbyterian Church. Skipper Don Crawford opened the meeting and Lucky. Felt led the devotions. During the business meeting, of ficers were elected for the coming year. Wilbur and Mary Hasklns will be skippers; Lee and Donna Faye Haskins, first mates; Clo- vis and Chris Story, log keepers, and Lucky and Velma Relt, purs ers. Installation will be held at the : first meeting in January al which icoria and Lavine Storey, Clovis and Chris Story, Jimmie and Bil lie Woodhouse will be chairmen. Chaplain George Milne closed the Christmas meeting with a prayer. Lumber Workers Accept Pay Boost MEDFORD OH Some 350 AFL Lumber and Sawmill Workers at the Medford Corp. have accepted a 5-to-15-cent hourly wage increase. B. L. Nutting, manager of the plant, said that Al Bohannan. busi ness agent of a union local 2115, had reported members ratification of the offer which amounts to an average 8-cent increase. A similar offer has been made to CIO Woodworkers, who form the woods and rail crews, Nutting re ported. Lebanon River In Raging Flood BEIRUT, Lebanon W The Abou All River raged in flood across north Lebanon today, with some 160 persons reported killed and 200 missing. The torrent cut the coastal town of Tripoli in half, destroying about 100 buildings and wrecking six bridges. President Camille Cham oun and Premier Rashid Karami hurried to Tripoli to oversee res cue work by troops and police re inforced from other towns. Jet Liner On Long Test Flight TORONTO Ijfl The Comet III. streaked into Toronto Sunday on the home leg of a 23,300 mile global test flight. The British jet airliner flew the, 5,190 air miles from Vancouver tc Toronto In 3 hours, 55 minutes, breaking all records for the route. Canada's fastest airliners take about eight hours on the came trip. The Comet averaged 560 miles an hour with a top speed of 587 over Winnipeg. Pilot John Cun ningham said he had the help of an 80-mile-an-hour tailwind. The airliner will take off for Montreal Tuesday morning.
