"0 v'j "We have maintained the same number of Instructor positions that we had last year, but we have our finger out and placed on sev eral possible new instructors and are looking for more. We may have to hire IS new people within a week. It Is just crazy." BIG CLASS The electronics technology course, which is radio and TV to gether, has 23 new enrollments this year, Purvine said. There are 34 carry-abead students. The greatest number of students that course has ever bad In the past was 42. The entire building will be taken over for the course which previous ly had Just the one floor. This dis lodges all the business courses which were upstairs. "We are putting in a complete TV shop," stated Purvine. "The enrollment right now will fill four of the seven classrooms in that building, and that Is without any walk - in enrollment. Last year bv the time school started, an ad ditional 50 students had enrolled in addition to the 24 counted by Aug. 31. Then we had .more than 2W "walk-ins." If that happens In the same proportion this year, we can expect 1000. - "Diesel . mechanics technology course had an enrollment of about 80 students at the previous high point. We now have a registration of new students of 42 and a carry- ahead of more than 60. So we nave moved the cabinet making classes from the Marshall Cornett Bail to the laundry building and nave given that space over to a heavy equipment snop lor aiesei. "The auto body and fender re pair class has 17 new students and a carry-attend enrollment of 10, making a total of 30 already. It has had the most pronounced up swing oi. any class, so we moved carpentry from the separate build ing it was in to the laundry build ing, to make Its old shop available either for body and fender or die- sel, t "Surveying technology and en gineering design technology are being moved to a newly remod eled building to meet accredita tion requirements and increased enrollment. The space they vacate, which la two large classrooms in Nlckerson Hall will beajised, after being remodeled; for business courses."- ; The summer patching up of the. streets and general repair work has been done, the director indi cated. Fourteen more classrooms have been prepared in existing buildings to take care of the tech nical related classes ajsd allied subjects. Work on the, campus Is 50 per cent technical and 50 per cent practical. The technical institute, estab lished in 1947, had more thai i per cent veteran enrollment that year. Last year the number of vet erans of World Wr n and Korea had dropped to under 20 per cent. This year It appears that the figure will be less than 10 per cent. Between Aug. i ana i Of that number, 283 had entered school by the end of the first week of the fall term. In August, 19S3, a total of 308 are expected to re turn. . "This new student figure 1s very startling to us," said Purvine. "It is a terrific spot to be in". Any thing can happen to change the prognostication of enrollment,. Music will be by the Three Motes from- Lorella; squares will be called by Vic Douglas of Klam ath Palls. Sunday morning - at 10 o'clock concession stands will be opened at Bly's Sprague River Recrea tional Area. Booths containing fan cy work, food and coffee, fortune telling and a fish pond will be In operation. A fly casting contest and various games for entertainment will round out the morning. The grand finale will be a beef barbecue at 4 p.m. Proceeds from this venture will be used to con struct a tennis court, .
