The name was suggested by Dr. Francisco De P. Miranda, director of the national Institute of nutri tion. Mexico City, Mexico, to dis tinguish it from undernutrition (lack of calories' and malnutrition (vitamin deficiency). Hypoproteinosis, he said, la the "most common disease of the world" and Is caused by "the low economic level on which half the population of the world lives." The disease has a tendency to delay growth of children and re duces their resistance to Infection.
