OREGON PACE TEN Plans Made For Teacher Meet Here Tentative plana are being made for the otftanlratloiial week sched uled for city teacher September 1 through 6. Teachers will attend the seasloti to receive Instructions before schools open September 8. Beginning Monday, September 1, a general session will be held In the morning and probably part o the afternoon, at Klamath Union high school. Supervisors of each depart ment will outline the program. J. V. LaClalr will discuss visual education; Mrs. Una Hackett, special educa tion; Andrew Loney, music; Robert Banister, art; Joe Peak, health and physical education, and Q. E. Rob erteon will be In charge of the course of study presentation. In the after noon the session will break up Into special groups for discussion with department heads. Tuesday morning, teachers will travel to the Oregon Vocational school to observe the educational program underway there, Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday will be spent In special sessions at the high school for high school and grade school teachers. Teachers will go to their respective buildings Thursday with high school freshmen registering at the high school that afternoon and Junior high students registering at Fremont school. All other students will regis ter at their respective schools Friday, and regular classes will begin Mon day, September 8. Throughout the first three days of organisational school for the teach era, they will hear reports of late educational trends from Instructors who have attended the various sum mer schools in California, Oregon and Washington. Tioga Forest Fire Dying MARKLEEVILLE. Calif.. Aug. 7 (AV-Fresh forest service crews were flown here today to Join In fighting a big-timber forest fire which has swept across thousands of acres of timber land In Tioga National forest. The situation eased somewhat, and Sheriff Orrin P. Brown report ed fire fighters appeared to have it "pretty well under control." The 65 occupants of this high Sierra village remained at their homes after making plans to evac uate the town last night. They won a vital respite when winds died down before midnight. A mile of fire breaks, on which bulldorers were hard at work, still separated Markleeville from the fire line. Fresh forest service crews from Ogden. Utah, were being flown to Mthden. Nev about SO miles north of Markleeville. and were to be brought here by car. Meanwhile, another fire, smaller but extremely fierce, broke out 14 miles to the north in the Job's peak area. Aug. 7 (Spe cial 1 Champion Northwest motor boat racers will contend In a re gatta at the lake here Sunday spon sored by the Junior chamber of commerce. Another highlight of the week end will be the regatta queen's ball at the armory from 9 to 1 Satur day night. Admission will be by tickets sold by Jaycee members and may be purchased at the dance. Music will be by Art Holman and his orchestra. Proceeds will go to the local hospital fund. Admission is free to the regatta, which will begin ad 1 p. m. Sunday at the Cottage Grove lake. Indian Drowns In "A" Canal James Raymond Chocktoot. 41-year-old Klamath Indian from Beatty. was drowned last night In the "A" canal near the Eberleln street bridge. State policemen arrived at the scene of the drowning after Chock toot had been in the water about 35 minutes, Thry applied artificial respiration for SO minutes but were unable to revive him. According to the Investigating of ficer, the Indian was only partly submerged In the waters of the canal. Ills wife, Vivian Tupper Chocktoot. was. unable to lift him out of the water when he slipped In. and it took two officers to get the heavy man up the bank. The lower half of Chocktooi's body was out of the water. The accident was first reported by an unidentified cab driver who called police.
