Deases used a lot of black, wool satin and silk jersey. He did much draping that swung the center of gravity down to table-top level and even below. His main attention was to the back. One little black short-jacketed suit had a dozen pleats down the skirt. Cocktail gowns sometimes bulged out madly In all directions and one evening gown, again ankle length, had a double bustle. Desses didn't seem much con cerned about preserving the flat stomachs of his models. On several models, including one' in coarse wool, he frankly recognized that some women dont have flat stom achs and he built to tit. Rice In the candle lighted chapel of the First Metho dist church of Portland, with the resident pastor officiating. Mrs. Rice is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Raymond Gattens of Baltimore. Md . and Dr. Rice the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Rice of Chiloquin. For her marriage Mrs. Rice chose a tan dressmaker style suit with a baby orchid corsage. The couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. How ard Richardson. A small recep tion was held following the cere mony. Mrs. Rice, a registered nurse who served with the armed forces dur ing war years, is now completing her public health nursing course. Dr. Rice, a Chiloquin high school alumnus, graduated from Oregon State college, the University of Oregon medical school, and recently completed his internship. He is now a resident physician at Doernbecher hospital In Portland. Thursday Party MALIN A pre-nuptial shower was given for Teddy Stevenson, whose marriage Is a coming event, on Thursday evening. July 21, In the Malin church parlors. Some 30 friends of the bride-elect were present for the occasion. Miss Stevenson, assisted by her maid of honor, Katherine Van Ors dale. opened many lovejy gifts which were placed on a lace-covered table decorated with the chosen i.-olors. rose and white.
