' Repair Work Set Back By Heavy Gusts PORTLAND, Dec, 6 VP) An other surge of wind following Tuesday's gule sot back repair work on broken power and com munications today. Winds with gusts up to 35 and 40 miles an hour were recorded at Portland airport during the night. Tho velocity fell to 12 miles this morning. Portland power companies re ported service normal to all hos pitals and Industries, but power was still partly out In homes of a dozen northwest towns. Glencoo school here announc ed today It would not reopen because of lack of heat. One-Way Traffic On Main Street Vigorously Opposed By Merchants Vigorous opposition to the es tablishment of one-way traffic on Main street, as suggested In a cross-city traffic plan offered by StatO Highway Engineer R. H. Baldock, was voiced at a meeting of numerous Main street merchants and property owners at the chamber . of commerce rooms last night. The group at first considered oPDoslllon to any one-way traf fic in Klamath Falls. Later, It decided to confine its opposition to such a plan for Main street, leaving the questions involving Pine street or Klamath avenue for an expression from Pine and Klamath avenue people. Engineer Baldock, on a re cent visit here, outlined three ?osslbie cross-city plans, all call ng for one-way traffic, cross ing the city from the Link river bridge on the south to Esplan ade and Alameda streets on the north. From the latter point, a new entrance to the city will connect with highway No. 97 north at about the point of the overhead crossing at the north city limns. ...... Hero ara the three plans: . No. 1 North on Klamath, south on Main. 'No. 2 South on Klamath north on Walnut. , No. 3 South on Pine, north on Klamath. No. 1 Best In making his report here last week, Baldock said he regarded plan No, l as the best irom tne standpoint of both traffic move ment and costs. The group present last night numbering about 50, voted vlr tually unanimously in opposi tion to one-way travel on Main, and indicated a desire for a study by the engineers of pos sible plans wnicn woum not re quire one-way traffic. One suggestion was made that highway No, 87, on its routes through town, be divided sim ply by making one route north bound and the other southbound, without restricting travel to one way. Resolution Presented After the meeting at the cham ber of commerce, whloh was presided over by Paul Skeen, the group went to the. city hall and presented Its resolution to the city planning commission and council, in Joint session there. ' In the ensuing discussion, it was proposed that state highway engineers be Invited to come to Klamath again for a general meeting of all Interested per sons for a discussion of cross city traffic plans. Bert Igl, chairman of the planning com mission, said he would suggest such a meeting to the engineers, end in cooperation with The Herald and News would give it ample publicity so all persons who wish may be present. The meeting last night was not sponsored by any organlza. tlon. Skeen, who Is president of the Klamath Merchants associ ation, said he was asked by sev eral persons to call such a meet ing, and finally did so, with word passed along the street In formally. Civil Case Due For Jury Now in Its fourth day, the ir rigation dispute between W. O. Smith, Malin farmer, end the Horsefly Irrigation district may be ready for the circuit court jury late this afternoon. Smith rested his case against the dis trict yesterday. The Malin potato grower is suing the Horsefly concern for $7000 damages.
