Four of the institutions placed two players each on the team and three schools have one player each on the mythical eleven. In the backfield is Herman Wedemeyer of St. Mary's. Cal Rossi of UCLA. Ted Tannehill of Southern California, and Jake Leicht of Oregon. - In the line are, at ends. Ed Ryan of St. Mary's and Jim Callanan of Southern California; tackles Rod Giske of Washington State and Wendell Beard of California; guards Alt Hemstad of Washington and Al Sparlls of UCLA. Bill McGovern of Washington is center. . - QBACBHOUH : Oliver On Postwar Football i- Scheduled to speak at the annual Lions club-KUHS gridiron JbancIUet at the Willard hotel tomorrow night, Tex Oliver, Oregon coach, may have a few things to say about the immediate Jtuture o postwar football m this part of the country, v Tex, or Gerald, as he is officially listed, has just completed his first season at jOregon since his discharge from the navy. ' He spent three years in the service of Uncle gam; holding the rank of lieutenant commander and taking part in a gigantic education program for the navy's seamen and fliers. r Oliver's first assignment was at St. Mary's (Jwhere he coached the Pre-Flight Airdevils in ftheir 1942 season. He then went over to the jAtlantie ' seaboard where he set up " training programs for thousands of pilots and crewmen. jTex's . ideas about physical fitness were put dnto use on- carriers and ships of the line, and :Jhavy' bases from Iceland to North Africa. - 'a . His next assignment took him to the Pacific where he had -headquarters at Pearl Harbor. He set up an eight-team Central (Pacific football league out there and also coached the Navy All-Stars which defeated the Army All-Stars 14-0 in a Poi Bov1 tClassic at Pearl Harbor last January. J. Down south at Alturas there is a high school football outfit nthat is quietly setting some sort of a record for this part of the country. Dr. G. Herbert Smith, university president, said today. Dr. Smith did not disclose the names of the applicants. How ever, three of them are believed to be John Warren, freshman coach at the1 University of Ore gon; Al Simpson, Mcdford high school coach, and Ben Dobbs, as sistant coach at the University of Idaho. All three men will have Inter viewed Dr. Smith by the end of the week. Masterson Replaces Jones At Nebraska LINCOLN, Neb., Dec. 6 (IF) Bernie Masterson, 34, head foot ball coach at St. Mary's pre flight school in California, today was named head football coach at the University of Nebraska to succeed Col.
