Entertainment is always var ied . . . and very danceable music is provided by Sammy Herman's six-piece orchestra . . . with a few semi-classical numbers thrown in by the pian ist .. . for extra enjoyment. Paul Swigart is the vocalist . . . end those of you who have heard Paul . . . know that he's plenty easy to listen to. So, the next time you get a yearning to dine out . . . New Pine Creek NEW PINE CREEK The East Bide Grange meeting was well "ttended last Saturday evening. tThe home economics will hold a jrteetlng soon and formulate plans for a series of dances, de tails of which will be announced later. Anna May Fisher was given a birthday party by her mother Mrs. Fannie Fisher, last Saturday afternoon in honor of her 10th . birthday. Games were played and many nice remembrances were received and the children all had a big time. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Lawson and Mrs. Harvey Craig of Al turas were weekend guests at the Truman Lawson home. Marion was home on. a 10-day furlough and was to report back to Fort Ord where he has recently com pleted his training. Word was received on Tuesday by Mrs. Clay Lawson that her . son Evert has received his dis charge from the SeabeeB and will be home soon from Camp Shoe maker, Calif., where he has been stationed. A baby girl weighing 8 pounds 12 ounces was1 born to Mr. and Mrs. Irvin L. Faris at 5:30 a. m. Saturday at the Lakevlew hos- Eital. she was named Janet clle. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sutton of Eugene are visiting this week with Irvin L. Faris and family. Sutton is owner of the Miner building barber shop in Eugene, formerly owned by Faris and is enjoying a week of various kinds of hunting and relaxation. He hopes to take home a nice big buck. . Lou Pierce who had the New Pine Creek Saddle shop here has moved to Washington where he formerly was in business. Alturas ALTURAS Mel Barron su pervisor of Modoc National For est, has announced his resigna tion and has accepted a position as manager of the Sam Jaksick lumber company interests. He will make his home and headquarters near Reno on one of the Jaksick ranches, but will be a frequent visitor in this dis trict where the Jaksick company operate a number of mills. H. K. Pyle has been named to replace Barron as supervisor. The appointment of a permanent supervisor has not, as yet, been made. He comes here highly recommended.
