BIX HERALD AND MEWS Friday, Oct. 26. 194S Bl lllfl S EUHOPEMAYBE HIT FINE LONDON. Oct. 26 UP) For. elgn Secretary Bevin declared in a house of commons debate to day that hunger and privation in Europe may bring "a further prolific human loss more dovas lating than the gun or the atom ic bomb." Warning of the danger of a "terrible epidemic" this winter in Europe, Bevin commented that if the United States congress failed to grant the additional $1,600,000,000 fund for the Unl. ted Nations relief and rchabill tatlon administration "UNRRA will be broke and the situation we will have to face in a few weeks' time will be disastrous. Subject of Debate He said, however, he could not discuss UNRRA further because the appropriation was the sub ject ol debate in congress. Bevin said conditions in devas tated Europe resulted from a policy Hitler imposed. When the nazis discovered they could not win the war, Bevin said they de cided to leave Europe in a state of "complete anarchy." "We had studied the situation for months and when we saw what had happened, we had to alter all our plans and redevise the system" Bevin continued. Ho described the Germany left by Hitler as a "country with no organization at all." He said Great Britain alone could do "very little" to relieve conditions in Europe. Britains Balk Although everything was be ing done to feed the people in the British occupation zone, Be vin said it had to be "balanced against the resistance of our peo ple to the cutting of their sup plies." He said grain was being burn ed in the Argentine because of the lack of oil and that it would be common sense to send oil to Argentina in return for the grain "but there again politics intervenes." "More wheat must be supplied if a disaster is to be avoided this year," the stocky foreign secre tary added. T Richard I. Boke of California was recently appointed by Sec retary of tne interior Harold L. Ickes to fill the important post of director of region 2, US bu reau of reclamation. That's Whtrt Our Money Goes You can see where the money goes by a glance at the check signed by the principal, Stanley Woodruff which was heading for the United States treasury de partment. Mr. Woodruff signed the check for $1175 which is the tax on the tickets sold for foot ball games and assemblies. The money that is left after the taxes are deducted goes to the various sports activities. The finance committee which consists of three faculty members and three students appointed by the student body president fig ures the proportion of the fund that goes to each activity. Foot ball, however, hasn't needed the money for some time as it is self supporting. It was helping to save our tanks and other fighting vehicles from lubrication failures that would have taken them out of action. Now, at no increase in cost, you can. have this war-born ingredient in your motor oil. Added to Golden Shell during manufacture, it fights the oxidation which results in sludge. It gives you an oil that stays free-flowing, full bodied, and efficient from one oil drain to the next As you know, gummy sludge means trouble. It sticks to bearing surfaces, offering little or no r lubricating value, and preventing good oil from getting in where it's needed When this happens, a big repair bill is brewing. So change now to new Golden Shell Motor Oil with oxidation inhibitor. Shell Oil Company, Incorporated. SHELL CREDIT CARDS ARE BACK. Honored at all Shell Stations In United Stales and Canada.
