Europe may bring "a further

Warning of the danger of a
"terrible epidemic" this winter
in Europe, Bevin commented
that if the United States congress
failed to grant the additional
$1,600,000,000 fund for the Unl.

He said, however, he could not
discuss UNRRA further because
the appropriation was the sub
ject ol debate in congress.
Bevin said conditions in devas
tated Europe resulted from a
policy Hitler imposed. When the
nazis discovered they could not
win the war, Bevin said they de
cided to leave Europe in a state
of "complete anarchy."
"We had studied the situation
for months and when we saw
what had happened, we had to
alter all our plans and redevise
the system" Bevin continued.
Ho described the Germany left
by Hitler as a "country with no
organization at all."
He said Great Britain alone
could do "very little" to relieve
conditions in Europe.
Britains Balk
Although everything was be
ing done to feed the people in
the British occupation zone, Be
vin said it had to be "balanced
against the resistance of our peo
ple to the cutting of their sup
plies." He said grain was being burn
ed in the Argentine because of
the lack of oil and that it would
be common sense to send oil to
Argentina in return for the
grain "but there again politics
intervenes."
"More wheat must be supplied
if a disaster is to be avoided this
year," the stocky foreign secre
tary added.

Richard I. Boke of California
was recently appointed by Sec
retary of tne interior Harold L.
Ickes to fill the important post
of director of region 2, US bu
reau of reclamation. The region
embraces the Central Valley pro
ject in northern California, and
a part of Oregon, with head
quarters at Sacramento.
Boke succeeds the late Charles
E. Carey, who died last month.
His appointment goes into effect
immediately.

You can see where the money
goes by a glance at the check
signed by the principal, Stanley
Woodruff which was heading for
the United States treasury de
partment. Mr. Woodruff signed
the check for $1175 which is the
tax on the tickets sold for foot
ball games and assemblies. The
money that is left after the taxes
are deducted goes to the various
sports activities.
The finance committee which
consists of three faculty members
and three students appointed by
the student body president fig
ures the proportion of the fund
that goes to each activity. Foot
ball, however, hasn't needed the
money for some time as it is self

morning at 9:05 to commemorate
Navy Day at which Commander
Atherton of the Klamath naval

rooms are keeping the rules set
up by the teachers.
Henley high school is having
a dance tonight from 8 to 12
p. m. Admission is 50 cents a
person and KUHS is invited.
The Instrumental program In
tho Klamath Falls grade schools
is now going m full swing with
the largest enrollment of Instru
mental students to date. There
are lia students playing wind
instruments who have had a year
or more of Instruction in public
schools, 44 string Instruments
are also included in tills cate
gory.
