HERALD AND NEWS, KLAMATH FALLS,. OREGON, PACE TEN Ay, WHEAT PRICES ; CONTINUE ON DOWNSWING PORTLAND. Aug. 80 VP) Cash wheat prices at Portland continued on a downward trend the past week, losing 1 to 3 cents a bushel compared with a week ago, the war food administration said today. Weakness" In cash wheat here was generally attributed to the extremely slow demand from all classes of buyers at coast termi nals. Mills appeared uninterest ed in wheat except high protein hard whites. The CCC was In the market , with support prices of $1.45, but this was not sufficient to main tain values, the WFA said. Grow ers, however, are not selling ap preciable amounts of wheat, since the current bids are now below loan levels. Considerable wheat was re ported being placed under loan. Wheat receipts at Puget Sound and Columbia river terminals! were seasonally heavy at about 1265 carloads, oi wnicn iJortiaim had ous. These receipts were reported, Including largly CCC stocks and wheat for terminal storage since the CCC support price is based on wheat in storage at terminals with coast transit. New flour bookings by mills were reported small. Favorable war news tended to limit pur chases of all grains largp ly to im mediate and nearby needs. Winter wheat harvest in Ore Kon is nearins completion and much spring wheat has been harvested. COFFEE'S BEEN AROUND Brazil furnishes about two- thirds of the world's coffee.
