PAGE SIX Club Entertains At Holiday Party : ' Members of Nile Hostesses to Husbands at Gay Affair Held at Elk Friday , ' On of the cuitomary attain that precede! the year-end holiday!, the Christmas dinner and party ot the Klamath Falls Nile club, was held last Friday evening, December the thir teenth, at the Elk hotel when members entertained their hut bands. A steak dinner was served at seven o'clock, followed by program and cards. The guests were seated about eight long tables that were decorated gaily in red and green and lighted by tall red tapers. Cones, holly, para eanthe berries and mistletoe formed attractive centerpieces. Mrs. Gus Anderson, the vice president, presided in the ab sence of the president, Mrs. J. H. Poppy. The e v e ai n g 's festivities were opened by the assembly ' tinging of "God Bless Ameri ca," followed by the introduc tion of guests. During the entertain ment hour Mrs. George W. Hillis sang "Mu sette's Waltz Song" from "La Boheme" and "Mr. Robin"; Mr. Charles Stanfield present ed the high school's a capella choir ot sixteen voices in three numbers that were re ceived with much apprecia tion. Mr. R. D. Eller, illustri out potentate of Hillah temple, Mystic Order of the Shrine, gave short informal talk. Santa Claus (Mr. Wilbur Arnold) appeared after the dinner hour and provided a great deal of fun by reading humorous letters to Santa aa he distributed gifts from the Christmas tree. , Later, bridge and pinochle were in play with the awards in bridge going to Mrs. Charles Gilbert and Mr. Arnold, high; Mrs. George Massey and Dr, Massey, consolation. Mr. Gus Anderson and Mr. Carl Stein- aeifer received the nrizM in pinochle. The evening's guest prizes .were received by Mrs. J. H. Carter and Mr. R. P. Ellington. Mrs. M. C. ANNOUNCEMENT TOLD FRIENDS IN DETROIT ' An engagement of Interest In Klamath Falls was told in the Detroit, Michigan news papers, with the announce ment of the betrothal of Miss Marie Elizabeth Moon, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Moon of Detroit, to Mr. Charles Woodrow Patterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Patterson of Midland, Oregon, and Stockton, California. The bride-elect's mother en tertained at the Women's City club in Detroit recently where Miss Moon received her guests in an attractive toast wool frock with a corsage of bronze chrysanthemums. Charles Patterson spent his first year at the College of the Pacific and was awarded a scholarship in the General Mo tors Engineering school at De troit where he studied and worked. Upon his graduation he was given a place in the Bulck shop and then went with LeTourneau at Peoria for year, then back to Cadil lac. No date for the wedding baa been set. KIWANIS CLUB INSTALLATION PARTY PLANNED ... ' Members of Kiwanis club are anticipating the installa tion party which is scheduled for Tuesday evening, Janu ary the seventh, at Reames Golf and Country club. F. Goeller En tertains With Christ mas Party The home of Mrs. J. F. Goeller at 234 South River side avenue in this city is one of the delightfully homely early day dwellings. The house and premises have been kept up by the Goellers during their nearly forty years resi dence there. The spacious living dining room, finished in birch-paneled walls with china closet doors of leaded glass, and stained glass windows, was the gathering spot for mem bers of the Art Needle Work club, Wednesday afternoon, when Mrs. Goeller entertained for their pleasure. . A cheery fire sparkled In the fireplace, a lovely silver fir Christmas tree, cut from an altitude of 6000 feet in the nearby Cascade mountains, perfect in shape, stood in one corner of the spacious room, while pine cones decorated the mantle and a miniature tree centered the tea table, all con . tributing to the Christmas season atmosphere. Mrs. George Hum, one of the members, proudly display ed a story published in the December the twenty-first 1940 issue of "Christian Youth," published by "The .Sunday School Times Com pany" of Philadelphia. The story is entitled "The Modoc Knife," and is written by Gretta M. Van Duker, Klam ath Falls, Oregon, grand daughter of Mrs. Hum. According to Mrs. Hum the story of her granddaughter is based partly on fact. The locale is the Spencer creek district near Keno. The char acters are members of the Spencer family, Modoc and Klamath Indians, and the time around the 1870's. Mrs. Goeller was assisted during the tea hour by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fred Goeller Jr. Mrs. Harry Rich ardson was a special guest. Mrs. Z. J. Powell will be hostess to the club Wednes day afternoon, January ' the fifteenth, 1941. Spending a week of the holi day season at the W. T. Comp ton home on Melrose street is Mrs. Elton Jackson and two children of Tiller, Oregon. Mrs. Jackson is a daughter ot Mr. and Mrs. Compton and formerly resided here where she has many friends. Installation of the club's new staff of officers will take place at a joint installation with the Venture club early in January, according to the re tiring presidents, Mrs. Ida Odell. Miss Benoist , Elected Head Girls' Friendly Society Names 1941 Offi cers Miss Virginia Lee Benoist was named president of the Girls' Friendly Society of St. Paul's Episcopal church at a meeting held Monday after noon at the church at half past four o'clock. Miss Joanne O'Neill was named vice president ot the group, Miss June Bosworth will serve a.i secretary and Miss Sally Mueller as treas urer. More than twenty-five girls took part in the carol service practice followed by supper and a gift exchange. Others present were the advisors in cluding Miss Hazel Morrison, Mrs. Ralph Benoist, Mrs. Phil Schroeder and Mrs. John Schubert. Hawkins on Vine street Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bakman (Dehlia Hawkins), accom panied b y Mr. Bakman's mother, Mrs. Molly Bakman, are arriving Monday from Frosno, California and Mr, and Mrs. John Hawkins are expected here Tuesday from Marslifleld. Besides their parents, they will visit with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mack and family in the Henley district and with Mr. and Mrs. James Hawkins. The Bakmans will remain here dur ing moat of the holiday season but Mr. and Mrs. John Haw kins will leave Thursday to return to their home on the coast. CHRISTMAS PARTY ENJOYED BY SUPPER CLUB Mrs. Samuel P. Miller en tertained at her home on Rose way drive Thursday evening at supper for members ot her bridge club. The living room was attractive with a gaily decorated tree and tall red candles against a cedar wreath were arranged on the mantle.
