Mr. Selltck is connected with the securities corporation of 40 Wall street, and travels most of his time between Now rork and London and London aud Paris. He was formerly from Los Angeles. Reoently wben be vtu-i going to Paris he thought it would be a splendid idea to take a banker friend tbere a box of apples. He went to a fruit dealer and made known his wants tor tbe best apple is, tbe market. There is ouly one apple in tbe market worth buying," he was told, aud that is what is called tbe Oiegon apple. Everyone is asking for it now, and will take nothing else attei ouce trying it." This wrt9 said to a toi mer Ualitorma man, who kuew or uregou tipples. 'The finest apple we ever bad," was the peueial "erdict. But alas for tbe entbusiastio bank er! Ho delighted was ne witn tnese beautiful specimens that he gave some to bis friends. His frieuda told of tbe unusual fruit, and their friends came begging to see them. Aud so they were doled out one by one, and tbe banker's heart swelled with pride as he saw the admiration bis apples caused. But oue day he awoke to Und tbt all bad been so given away but a mere bait dozen, and be closed his haud and heart to their pleasme and kept tbem for bis family. But his guuerosity was well repaid Now these numerous friends will bave notbuig but Oregon apples, and they send to London tor them and think nothing ot tbe price tbey must pay For are they not tbe best apple that bas ever crossed their ipicurean French nalates? Mr. Selleck goes ou to say tuat no himseli wbeu in New York buys them every day at the fruit stands and pays 15 cents to JO cents apiece ror inem, aud does not consider it money ill spent. Certain kinds of apples are sold there under ine general name oi Oretron ancles, and this is advertise meut enough. Tbey are Spitzenberg, Newtown Pippins aud tbe Bauanu ap pie, which has never beeu grown else wheie. Mr. Selleck pays 30 cents for it at the fruit stands. Mr. Selleck is eager that the commercial bodies here take up toe matter oi sysiemaiicuny advertising Oregon apples so as to give tbem the prestige that the Cali fornia orange enjoys, and he says it will be an easy mutter and a remun erative oue, for ihe commercial value of tbe apple Is greater than mat or the orauge.
