Tbe farmers are spending 1600 on tbe new road op tbe valley, which waa built tbree tears ago, and it is the beat road out of tbe White Salmon valley, being a watei grade and much shorter than tbiuugb White Salmon, while saving a very heavy grade now existing on the White Balmon road. Tbe railroad company now bas a steam shovel at work just west ot Un derwood taking out boulders aud rook, loading tbree train loads a day, wbiob ia being taken to riprap the road just below Stevenson, opposite the rock being removed will make room tor a sidetrack at Underwood, and there is no doubt the business which will come to Uuderwoid trom tbe valley will make a side track and atation absolutely necessary at Uuder wood, or tbe business will be ferried across tbe river to Mood Kiver and loaded on tbe U. K. & N. trains, as It will be oheuper to bring It here than to take it to Uingen, aa the loca tion ot tbe Hood station is inacoess able from the White Salmon valley. The improvement Club at Under wood ia holding eatbusiastio meetings twice a month, aud doing much good.
