The Meriford High School student will have her name en graved on a perpetual plaque which will hang in the Mt. Ashland Ski Lodge. The Snow Queen's court includes: left to right, the Misses Nancy Elmgrcn, Mary Cheney, Queen Christine, Sue Elmgren, and Christine Bnrtcls. The girls wore the ever popular bright wool sweaters and jackets with stretch pants from the Rogue Ski Shop. Each girl received a tro phy from the Mt. Ashland Corporation, devel opers of the Mt. Ashland Recreation Area in the Siskiyou Mountains. Queen Christine will preside at Rogue Snowmen activities through out the year. Mr. Carrell is a radioman second class assigned to the U.S.S. Polk County. The newly weds are making their home in National City. Holiday Rites Set In Ashland ASHLAND Among couples who plan holiday weddings are Miss Margaret Louise Vance and Raymond Lawrcneo Shafer, who have set December 2!) as the date for the rites. The cere mony is to be performed in Trinity Episcopal Church, Ash land. Miss Vance is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Vance, 448 llelman Street, Ashland, and her fiance is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Shafer, Prospect. The bride-elect is a l!i! grad uate of Ashland High School and now is a student at Southern Oregon College. The bridegroom-elect is a 1958 Prospect High School graduate and serv ed for four years in the Const Guard. He is employed by Walt's Lithin Motor Company, Ashland. Announcement Made at Dinner The engagement of Miss Nan cy Simcox and Tom Perdue was announced by the bride-elect's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Simcox, 1224 Winchester Ave nue, during a dinner given re cently in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Russell, 204 Windsor Way, Central Point, aunt and uncle of Miss Simcox. The bridegroom-elect is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert T. Per due, Eagle Point. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Russell, Mrs. Faye Hall, all Mcdford; Mr. and Mrs. John Alansky, Berkeley, Calif.; Mrs. W. S. Drcveskracht, Red wood City, Calif,; Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Russell and family, Rose- burg, and Miss Connie Russell, daughter of the hosts. Miss Simcox is a student at Oregon State University, Cor vallis and her fiance is a stu dent at Southern Oregon Col lege. No wedding date has been set. Matte son, was honored at a shower given December 8 by an aunt of the bridegroom-elect, Mrs. Howard Gault, 3426 Delta Walt ers Road. . Fourteen guests attended, all relatives of the couple. Games were played and refreshments served. Miss Mentzcr was pre sented miscellaneous gifts. The bride - elect is a daugh ter of Mrs. Thomas Cornwall, 1710 Beokman Street, Mcdford, and Donald 0. Mentzcr, San Mateo, Calif. The bridegroom' elect is a son of Mr. and Mrs Norman Mattcson, Central Point. The wedding is planned for Saturday, December 21 at 8 o'clock in Ihe evening in Med ford First Methodist Church. Holiday Season Brings Big Rush of Activities By Olive Starcher With Christmas little more than a week away, Rogue Valley dwellers are caught up in the mad rush of parties, programs, plans for family dinners, for entertaining visitors from other cities, for trips away to spend the holidays with families and friends elsewhere or for winter vacations. One of the largest of the annual holiday events is the Swedish glogg party given each year by Dr. and Mrs. B. A. Cope at their hjme, 717 Roc3 Street, Ashland. This year the Copes have set Saturday, December 21, for the party and about 150 guests are expected. Mrs. I. E. Schuler, Highland Drive, plans to leave the first of the week for Portland where she will spend Christmas and the New Year holidays with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Walker Treece and their three children. She will be away about a month. Also planning to be away during the holidays is Mrs. E. A. Littrell, 833 Murphy Road. Mrs. Littrell will be joined December 21 by her granddaughter, Miss Lynn Brainerd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Brainerd, Petaluma, Calif., and a student at St. Helen's Hall, Portland, and the two will continue south. January 4 Mrs. Littrell will sail on the President Roosevelt for a winter cruise which will take her to Honolulu, Hong Kong, Manila, Yokohama and Kobe. She will be away until mid-February. Among the Christmas season's social events in Ashland is the wassail party that is being given by Mr. and Mrs. Philip Hanson on the evening of December 23. Mr. Hanson, who recently returned from a tour of Saudi Arabia, will spend the holidays in Ashland before beginning a two-month tour of Canada and the northwest. December 16 he is appearing at Humboldt State College, California, for his annual presentation of Dickens "Christmas Carol," and on the evening of December 18 he will give tne same one-man snow in cnurcnill Hall auditorium. The invitations from Suzanne and Philip read "wassail from an old recipe. Dr. and Mrs. B. L. Lageson, 107 Black Oak Drive, will travel to Portland to be with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Vranizan, and their children, Jimmy, Laura and Richard. Mrs. Lulu Saulsberry, Jacksonville, plans to spend the Christ mas holidays with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Saulsberry, Berkeley, Calif. From here Mrs. Saulsberry will leave for Sacramento for a couple of days to visit her son, who spends the week days there in his position with the Bureau of Business Education of the State Department of Higher Education. The two then will continue to the couple s home in Berkeley to 10m his wife, who is a teacher in the Berkeley School System. They will observe the holiday there. Miss Stcinbach is a Medford High School gradu ate and is a freshman in secondary education at the college where she lives in Cascade Hall B. (Whitland Locke photo) Exhibit To Open A Southern Oregon Photo graphic Salon exhibition will open December 19 in the Rogue Gallery, 220 West Main Street, Medford, for public viewing and will remain on exhibit through January 3. A reception for ex hibitors and a preview will be held December 18 at 8 p.m. This will be the first exhibit of photography done by local resi dents shown in the Rogue Gal lery. Many ot the some 80 en tries are blue ribbon winners. Among the pictures will be "Cattails" by Howard Lind; "The Three Musketeers" by June Hoefft; "Day Dreaming" by J. R. Wilson; "House of Shakespeare" by Charles A. Parlier; "Ranch Hand" by Ed Klimko; "Sue" by Norman Kincheloe; "Little Niagra" by John A. Wilson and "Sigman's Arabian Barn" by Margaret Lind. Return Mr. and Mrs. Ed Canoose, 55 Ross Court, have returned to their home here after spending a month in Southern California and Palm Springs. Last night Mr. and Mrs. Sicpncn G. Nye were hosts for a holiday season dinner, inviting a group of friends to their orchard home off the Phoenix-Hillcrest road. Rogue Valley Lady Golfers will hold the annual Christmas luncheon Thursday, December 19, at Rogue Valley Country Club at 12 noon. Each member is asked to lake a gift, and each is to make her own reservation with the club office. o James Gault, a student at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, is to arrive today to spend the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gault, 3426 Delta Waters Road. Also expected to arrive for Christmas week are Lt. and Mrs. David Gault, Atwalcr, Calif. During their stay they will be house guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cook, 1876 Brookhurst Road. She is the former Miss Barbara Cook. Lieutenant Gault is stationed with the Air Force at Atwalcr. Reception Given For Newlyweds GOLD HILL - Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Gray, whose mar riage was an event of Novem ber 30 in Reno, Nev., were honored at a wedding reception given in the home of his son and daughter - in - law, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Gray, Gold Hill. Co-hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Erskin, Jacksonville. The newlyweds are residing at Jacksonville. Mrs. Gray is the former Ethel Smith, Med ford. White wedding bells decorated the Gray home for the event. Mrs. Erskin took charge of the gift table. Mrs. Gray cut and served the wedding cake. Style, Variety Show Plans Made Gamma Rho Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority members now are making plans for an annual style and variety show to be held in March in Phoenix Community Club. The plans were discussed at the December 11 meeting of the chapter in the home of Mrs. Frank Tester man, 865 Glendale Street, Ash land. A report was given on a proj ect held in conjunction with the recent Flea Market given by the Ashland Beta Sigma Phi chapter. Mrs. William Knips assisted the hostess with refreshments.
