FRIDAY, Two Churches Set Activities For Presbyterians The sacrament of infant bap tism will be observed at the First Presbyterian Church Sun day during the 11 a.m. service. Dr. D. Kirkland West will preach on, "God's Book for To day's Problems." The junior choir, directed by Miss Shirley Slater, will sing, "i-raise 10 uoa in Heaven" for both morning services. The senior hich choir will sine. "As It Fell Upon a Night" an English Carol, for the 9:30 a.m. service and at 11 a.m. the chancel choir will present, "Break Forth Into Joy." At 5 p.m. Sunday those plan ning to unite with the church are to attend a class taught by Dr. West on the doctrine and government of the church. This class will meet with the ses sion on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The Cruisers club Christmas program will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. Caroling will be ac companied by Mrs. Joseph Web ster, Ralph Ettel and Mrs. Dor othy Mae Plumlcy.,A surprise program has been planned by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hundley and each couple is to take cookies or candy. Dr. West conducts a midweek Bible Study Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. Discussion this week will be on the fourth chapter of the constitution of the Presbyterian Church, "How God Created the Earth" and "God's Intention When He Created Mankind." All men of the church are in vited to attend the Thursday noon businessmen's luncheon and take a friend. A short In spirational talk will be given by Dr. West. Westminster "Wise Men for Today" will be the sermon to be given by the Rev. John 0. Reynolds at the Westminster Presbyterian Church Sunday. The service will be held at 11 a.m. The church choir will sing the anthem "Sing We Noel" under the direction of Mrs. Harvey Field. A children's sermon will be given to the boys and girls who attend children's church be fore they are excused for their own activities. The church school meets at 9:45 a.m. with classes for boys and girls from the three-year-olds in the nursery department throueh the senior high. There is also an adult class which meets in the pastor's office. New mem bers or visitors are welcome to any of the departments. The Senior High Fellowship will meet at the church Sunday at 8:45 n.m. in order to go to the Rogue Valley Manor to lead the vespers at 7 p.m. James Rowan. Christy Elmore and John Castcrline will speak on the theme "The Atmosphere of Christmas, 1963." Fireside will be held afterward. The Mariners for married couples will meet at the church at 6:30 p.m. Sunday to go carol ing. They are invited to take their children and they will con clude with refreshments at the home of Dr. and Mrs. L. L. Armstrong, 2101 Oakwood Drive. Westminster Church is located on Oakwood Drive between Barneburg and Grovcland Aves. Friends Church Sets Study Class Medford Friends Church at Meniman Uoad and DcUarr Avenue announces two events for Sunday. A study class for young couples led by the pastor, Jack Willcuts, on the subject, "Build ing a Christian Home," is start ing. An elective course which meets during the Sunday school hour from 9:45 to 11 a.m., the classes will continue until Easter. Using a textbook writ ten by Dr. Henry R. Brandt, a Christian psychologist of De troit, Mich., the periods will be given to both teaching and dis cussion. During the course a Christian physician, a Chris lion lawyer and a certified pub lic accountant will be called in for specialized lectures in their field of Interest, Also Sunday evening there will be a third in the scries of films for young people titled, "Teen-age Crusades." Shown at 6:30 p.m., the film gives in struction on youth problems, home and social relations and other significant needs. DECEMBER 13, 1963 Concert Christmas Music Planned Sunday Evening At Church of Nazarene "The Christmas Story in Can dlelight Carols," a Christmas cantata by Don Hustad, will be presented by the sanctuary choir of the First Church of the Naza rene, 520 N. Holly St., Sunday at 7 p.m. and will be directed by Perry Christiansen, minister of music for the local church. SunDortina the adult choir will be the cherub and carolier choirs, directed by Mrs. Chris tiansen. The cherub choir, which Is composed of primary age chil dren, will sing several numbers including "Timothy's Carol" by Jensen. The carolier choir will Feast of Carols Is Sunday Evening "The Search Is On" will be the title of Dr. George Rose berry's sermon Sunday at First Methodist Church. Michael Johnson, soloist, will sing "Christmas joy ai omn morning worship services. The youth choir will sing "O Come, 0 Come. Emmanuel" at the 9:30 a.m. service and the chancel choir will sing "As Lately We Watched" at 11 a.m. The 14th annual Feast of Carols will be held on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The altar, youth and chancel choirs will partlci' nate. as will the congregation, Carols from every land and every period of the Christian faith will be sung and organ music will add to the festival of music. A feature will be color films of many of the great paintings of the Nativity scenes with ap propriate carols. Activities Listed For St. Luke's Christmas activities will get under way this week end at St. Lukes Methodist Church. Later that afternoon the Jun ior High Medford Youth Fcl lowship, under the leadership oi Mr. and Mrs. Ab Uressctt will go to the woods to select the Christmas tree for the church. They will bo assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Martin Grier. The group will return to the church to decorate the tree. The church school will bo in full operation Sunday at 9:45 a.m. at the 11 a.m. worship. The Rev. Charles R. McDonald, pastor of St. Luke's will preach on the subject: "Advent's Third Step". Douglas Vail will read the Scripture lesson. Southern Baptist Topics Announced The Rev. G. 0. Skaar, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church, will have for his ser mon topic Sunday morning "Why Jesus Came." At the eve ning service Mr. Skaar will speak on "Basic Beliefs God the Father." Robert Klusman will direct the singing at both services. At the Training Union hour beginning at 6:30 p.m. the adult unions will continue their studies "Understanding the Communist Challenge." The subject for this week's study will be "Church and the State Under Commu nism." Dick Shrciverstcin is training union director. Wednesday, Dec. 18, the youtn choir of the First Baptist Church, Klamath Falls, will give a concert at the local church at 794 Lozier Lane. The 22-voice choir will be conducted by David Ham. Baptists to Give Pageant Sunday The annual Sunday school Christmas program of the First Baptist Church will be present ed Sunday at 7 p.m. Title of the pageant is, "This Shall Be A Sign." Mrs. Lorctta Brenneman Is director and will be nssistcd by the departmental superin tendents. Each department ot the Sunday school will take part in the play which will be pre sented in the church sanctuary. Sunday at 11 a.m. Pastor Bernard E. OREGON Apostolic Faith to Give 'Real Light of "T.o Rca! Light of Christ mas" will be the theme of the Christmas story to be presented by the children of the Apostolic Faith church on Friday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature three scenes with musical back ground by choruses, groups and soloists in costume. A toy band of pre school children will pre sent "Jesus Loves Me" and "Gospel Bells" as part of their rendition, with Diane Sprague, conductor. Tim Burchfield will give "A Child's Prayer." The first scene will open with a rec itation of the poem "The Real Light of Christmas" by a group of juniors. Kathy Walden will play "Concerto" by Seitz as a violin solo. Free Methodists Enlarge Nursery At the Sunday School Work ers Conference held on Tuesday at the Free Methodist Church it was decided to move the nursery to a larger room and secure more furniture to care for increase in the attendance in this department. Mrs. Mel vin Lee, superintendent of the nursery department, plans to have the new room in readiness for Cradle Roll Sunday. The Light and Life Men's Fellowship group will meet Sat urday at 7 p.m. at the church. A film from the Bell Telephone Company depicting the progress in the State of Oregon will be shown followed by a brief busi ness session and refreshments. The president of the group, Sam Oetinger, will present the pro gram. In the Sunday morning wor ship service a trio of young people with Alice Mae, Royal and Ruth Harger will present the music. Pastor Roland Stew are will speak on the subject "The Divine Design." During the 6 p.m. family hour the service training course will be continued in the book Here's the Answer." The free Methodist Youth service will be presented by Kathleen Marsh. In the 7 p.m. service Mrs. Gene Covic and Mrs. Lester Marsh will present the music, followed by the message from the pastor on the subject "The End of Faith." St. Peter's Events Are Announced "Training Faithful Ministers of the Gospel" is the topic of Sunday's sermon-lecture planned by the Rev. John E. Si mon, pastor of St. Peter's Lu theran Church, 1020 E. Main St. The services begin at 8:15 and 11 a.m. The Lord's Supper will be celebrated in the early service. Rehearsal for the following Sunday's children's Christmas service will be the main item on the Sunday school program, beginning at 9:30 a.m. St. Peter's Christian Kinder garten, a three-hour-a-day school under the direction of Mrs. Edna Tarns, will present a Christmas program Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The church's Christmas party, sponsored by the auxiliaries of the congregation for all mem bers and friends of St. Peter's, is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. IS at 6:30 p.m. Master of cere monies will be Virgil Wolff. The program will be furnished by the church's young people's or ganization. Pastor, Family To Be Honored GOLD HILL The Rev. and Mrs. William Stacy and family will be honored Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at a reception to which every one in the community of Gold Hill is invited to attend. They are newcomers to Ore gon, coming here from New Meadows, Idaho. He is the new pastor of the Gold Hill Com munity Methodist Church. The Colorado blue spruce that is a part of the year around landscaping will be dec orated, and there will be life size figures of Mary and Joseph and the Christ Child, as well as three Wise Men, angels suspend ed overhead, and the Star shining over all. First Christian Sermon Slated "Where Is He . . . Born King" is the title of the sermon which the Rev. Fredrick Ross Evans will preach Sunday morning at the First Christian Church. It is based on Matthew 2:2. The carillon choir will sing the anthem "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" at the 9:30 a.m. service. At the 11 a.m. service the chancel choir will sing "Gesu Bambino" with a flute obligato played by Miss Sarah Matthews. The junior choir will sing "Silent Night" during the offertory. At 2:30 p.m. Sunday the church school departments will present the annual Christmas program. The play "The Shep herds Led the Way" will tell the Nativity story in narration, pantomime and song. Gifts for the North western Christian Home for the aged at Beaverton will be brought and dedicated as part of the program. The Chi Rho Fellowship will meet at 6 p.m. with Barbara Taylor leading their study series on the New Testament. The Middlers and Christian Youth Fellowships will meet at the church at S p.m. and then go to Grants Pass to meet with the youth groups at the First Christian Church there. Third Sermon In Series To Be Given The members and friends ot the Congregational Church will meet for worship and study at 11a.m. Sunday. The meeting place of the church is Hoover Grade School on Siskiyou Boule vard while a new sanctuary and educational unit are being built at the corner of East Jackson Street and Berkeley Way. The Rev. Robert W. Tull. min ister of the church, will preach the third sermon in a series of Advent sermons on the theme "The Christian and His Christ." This week's sermon is entitled "Prepare the Way and Take No Offense." The choir will partici pate in the service, singing the anthem, "Come, My Heart, Canst Thou Not Hear It." Sunday the United Church Youth will attend the 4 p.m. vesper service at Southern Ore gon College, after which they will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bish for a sack supper. The Bishes live on Wag ner Creek Road in Talent. The Laymen's Fellowship will meet for breakfast at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Stanley's Res taurant, 510 N. Katharine Bosworth, minister of Unity Church, Holly and Haven Streets, will have for the subject of her lesson "Mag nify the Lord", at the 11:15 a.m. Sunday service. The text is taken from Luke 2:10. This is the third lesson in the Christ mas series, "Preparation in the Great Search, Finding and Fol lowing the Indwelling Christ. Miss Sandra Myers will be at the organ, and Mrs. Genevieve McCorkle will be at the piano. Preceeding the service, they will play an organ, piano prel ude. Mrs. H. H. Bresee will sing "The Christmas Lullaby" by Irwin Rodgers. The Unity Choral group will meet with Mrs. McCorkle, di rector, immediately following church. Due to the many Christmas activities, the Men of Unity will not meet.. The prayer ministry will meet Wednesday, Dee. 18, at 11 a.m. at the church. This will be a prayer ministry Christmas program with music. Those at tending are to take their lunch. Coffee will be served. The study class will meet at 1 p.m. The Wednesday night study class will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Unity Center, 3777 Jacksonville High way. The Grants Pass and Ashland classes will meet as usual. Unity Church is an affiliate of the Unity School of Christianity at Lee's Summit, Mo. Choirs to Sing Christmas Carols The Rev. R. E. Cull, pastor of First Assembly of God, 1108 W. Main St., will speak on the subject, "You Must Find God For Yourself," at the 11 a.m. Sunday service. The adult choir under the direction of Robert E. Cull Jr. will sing, "The First Noel." Sunday at 7:30 p.m. the sun shine choir for children under 10 years of age and the junior choir for children ages 10-12 will present a program of Christmas carols. The sunshine choir under the direction of Mrs. Peter Graves will sing three selections: "Away in the Manger," "Silent Night," and "Angels from the Realms of Glory." Mrs. Walter Meeker is pianist for this group. The junior choir is directed by Mrs. Cull Sr. and will present three carols as follows: "O Lit tle Town of Bethlehem," "O Holy Night," and "Unto Us a Child is Born." Appearing in vocal solos will be Miss Rhonda Kahl singing, "The First Christ mas," and Miss Carol Smith. Scripture readings will be given by Daniel Hanson and Devin Cantonwine. Mrs. Elmer Rcz nicsek is pianist for the junior choir. During the evening's program a taped recording of "The Frank Folio Story" will be heard. This recording relates the story of the conversion of the entire fam ily to the Christian faith. Academy Teacher To Speak Saturday At Local Church E. C. Harms, pastor and Bible teacher at Milo Academy will speak at the 11 a.m. worship hour in the Medford Seventh-day Adventist Church Saturday. Mu sic for the service will be pre sented by the Rogue Valley Chorale under the direction of Marvin Wilson. 'The Way of the Cross" will be the theme of the Missionary Volunteer meeting at 4 p.m. Saturday. Both the Medford and Valley View Missionary Volunteer groups have completed their portion of the North Pacific Union Conference's Bible Writ ing program according to an an nouncement made by Mrs, Richard Ellis, Medford youth leader. The project, begun with the purpose of spotlighting the scrip tures in a new way, called for the complete copying of the King James Version of the Bible by hand. Blank pages were dis tributed to the young people's groups throughout the confer ence, and members were given the ' opportunity to share in copying portions of the Scrip tures, giving them a deeper ap preciation of the original copies made hen no other method was available. Medford's Portion Oregon's designated portion was Genesis through Chronicles, with the Medford group assign ed Exodus 13 through 25. When the entire Bible is com pleted the pages will be bound and will be kept on display in the Walla Walla College Li brary at College Place, Wash. Medford Pathfinders will meet at the clubhouse Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon to complete the Christmas wreaths begun at their Dec. 9 meeting, and to pack food boxes for Christmas delivery to local families. Members of the Milo Aca demy Choir will be in Medford Sunday night to assist in bring ing Christmas music to Medford residents as church members solicit their aid in their annual world wide missions appeal program. Sermon Subject Is Announced The sermon topic of the Rev. Wililam Wash of the Church of the Brethren, 345 N. Mary St., for the 11 a.m. worship hour is "They Came Looking for a King." The choir will sing, "To Us a Child of Hope Is Born." At 7 p.m. the CBYF will meet to continue their discussion on the Ten Commandments. John Henderson, youth adviser, will be in charge of discussing tha third and fourth commandment. Wilma Toennigcs will be the de votional leader. Tonight the junior high class will meet at the church for their Christmas party.
