OREGON rr- I V if I V. .... v i V m J t v ; ' I n Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Carrol Turner (I.andin Photo) Catholic Ceremony Held An event of September 28 at Sacred Heat, catholic church was the nuptial mass and mar riage ceremony of Miss Kath leen Mary Newcomb and Thom as Carrol Turner. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bradley Newcomb, 516 Da kota avenue. The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Neil Turner, 513 Alder street, Cen tral Point. The Rev. Gilbert Lulay offi ciated at the 10:30 o'clock morn ing mass and wedding attended by 200 relatives and friends. The bride wore a floor length gown of nylon organza over taf feta fashioned with fitted bodice, long sleeves, scoop neckline and full gathered skirt which formed a chapel train. The neckline was appliqued with Chantilly lace embroidered with pearls and iri descent sequins and the skirt was caught up in the front by organza roses. Her veil of silk illusion was elbow length ana fell from a tiered queen's crown of lace, pearls and crystals. She carried a cascade bouquet of white carnations encircling a white orchid. Mr. Newcomb es corted his daughter to the altar. Five Attend Bride Miss Linda Lewis was honor attendant and bridesmaids were Miss Thereas Newcomb, sister o( the bride; Miss Mary Ann Doughertys Visit Here Mr. and Mrs. Lonny Daugh erty planned to leave today after visiting their parents while on their honeymoon trip. The bride, the former Miss Darlrne Mollers, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Mol lers, Route 2, Box 212, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland .lones, 119 Lozier lane, all of Medford. Parents of the couple enter tained September 28 at a re ception in the home of the bridegroom's parents. Friends and relatives of the couple called between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. The couple's marriage was an event of September 15 in Las Vegas, Ncv, Wears Lace The bride wore a white lace sheath frock over tafleta with matching laee duster. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Farris, Riverside, Calif., aitcnded the rouple. Mrs. Farris was dressed in a green and silver brocade sheath dress. The wedding breakfast was served in the Show Boat res taurant, Las Vegas. The couple will live in Victor ville, Calif., where the bride groom is stationed at George Air Force base. The bride is a lflKI graduate of Glendale, Ore., High school, and the bridegroom was grad uated in 10 from Medford High school. Honor Student Enters School Laura Jean Griffith, an honors graduate of Phoenix High school with the class of 'M, is now a student at Ore gon State university in the school of science, and is living at Snell Hall. She received scholarships from the O.N.C. company, the Carpenter foundation and the State of Oregon Scholarship committee. The student is the daughter of Mrs. Thelma McCurdy, wno for merly lived at 4225 Cedar Lane, and is now living at 319 Van couver street, Medford. Snider, cousin of the bride, and Miss Jennifer Espey. Junior bridesmaid was Diane New comb, another sister. They wore taffeta brocaded frocks with bell skirts and matching pillbox hats which held short veils. Miss Lewis' frock was mint green taffeta and she carried shattered carnations and yellow rosebuds. The other at tendants' dresses were yellow and they carried bouquets of pink, yellow and blue shattered carnations. Thomas Newcomb, brother of the bride, was best man, and seating the guests were Forrest Cook, Central Point, Richard McDowell, Central Point, Paul Newcomb, brother of the bride, and James Hogue. Richard Stu art was ring bearer. Acolytes were Timothy and Thomas Darland. Choir Sings Miss Mary Kay Hochslatler was organist and the Marian Choir of St. Mary s High school sang. The bride had been a member of the, choir for four years. Mrs. Newcomb wore a gold brocaded sheath dress with matching accessories. Her cor sage was of blue carnations and white rosebuds. Mrs. Turner chose a turquoise sheath dress with tiered peplum and black accessories. Her (lowers were pink rosebuds and white carna tions. Following the ceremony a re ception was held at the Knights of Columbus hall. Miss Helen McDonnell and Mrs. Lester An derson cut and served the wed ding cake and Mrs. Forrest Cook and Mrs. Richard Mc Dowell presided at the punch bowls. Mrs. John Snider, aunt of the bride, poured coffee. Miss Mary Walsh was in charge of the guest book. At the gift table were Miss Annabell Turner, Miss Jane Evans, and Miss Ann Depncr. Thereas Ford passed packets of rice. To Colorado For traveling to Colorado on the wedding trip, the bride wore an azure blue Italian knit suit, with while, red, and blue acces sories. Her corsage was the white orchid from her bouquet. The newlyweds will make their home at 15 Elm street after Oc tober 14. The bride is a graduate of St. Mary's High school. Mr. Turner is a graduate of Crater High school and is employed by Med ford Corporation. Among the out of lown guests were LI. Col. Leslie Conroy, El Paso, Tex., uncle of the bride: Mr. and Mrs. Neil Murphy, Grants Pass, cousins of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. John Adamcyk, Gridley, Calif. Prior to the weddine the bride-elect was honored at four showers. A linen shower was given by Mrs. Leroy Stuart; and miscellaneous showers by Mrs. John Mansfield, Miss Mary Lee Lnwry and Miss Kathy Hout. The rehearsal dinner was eiv- en by the bridegroom's parents at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Ford. Nile Social Group Newly Organized Mrs. Ernest B. Price was elected chairman for the re mainder of the year for the newly organized social group of Daughters of the Nile, Zuleima temple, during a luncheon Sep tember 30 in the Medford hotel. Mrs. Ralph Krows was elected treasurer, also until the close of the year. The organizational meeting was attended by 20 members from Grants Pass, Medford and Ashland. Meetings are to he held the third Monday of each month, the next to be October 21 at 12:30 p.m., when a no-hostess luncheon and cards are on the program at the Medford hotel. Reservations should be made by calling Mrs. Ernest Price, 772-2691 or Mrs. Krows, 772-8586. Dinner Party Honors Couple; Wedding Set Mrs. Maurice Spatz and Thomas W. Dclzell were honor ed at a recent dinner given by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Far rcll at their home on East Main street. Mrs. Spatz and Mr. Del zell have announced their com ing marriage, which has been set for Saturday, October 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic church here. Mrs. Spatz has made her home in Medford for many years, and Mr. Dclzell lives in Portland. He is chairman of the board of Portland General Electric company. Mr. Delzell has many friends in this city since his sister, Mrs. Don New bury, Phoenix, Ariz., was a long time resident of Medford before going to Arizonia. The Farrell's dinner was in the Japanese theme, since the honored guests plan to travel in the Orient following their marriage. A small group of the couple's close friends attended the party. This week Mrs. Spatz will be honored at a luncheon to be given by Mrs. Aimee Deuel and Mrs. Martin Luther, and she and Mr. Delzell have also been feted at a number of smaller events. Guests Depart After Visit Mr. and Mrs. Ralph II. Brit ton left Thursday for their home in Palo Alto, Calif., after being houseguests for 111 days in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert B. Lowry, Fern Valley road, brother-in-law and sister of the Brit tons. The guests are known in the valley from their annual visits and during their stay Mrs. Lowry entertained at luncheon in her sister's honor at Rogue Valley Country club. Several valley friends of Mrs. Britton at tended the event. Past Matrons Reames Past Matrons club members will serve a salad luncheon at 12:30 p.m., Mon day, October 7, preceding their business session and social hour. Mrs. Roy Nordwick, 226 Ross lane, will be hostess. "etrothal News Is Announced At University The engagement of Miss Kar en C. Morlan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Morlan, 1625 Stratford Way, to William R. Monk, was announced recently at a candlelight ceremony at the Pi Beta Phi sorority house at the Oregon State university, Corvallis. Mr. Monk's parents are Mrs. Lewis Arrambide, Ventura, Calif., and C. R. Monk, Odessa, Tex. . The bride-elect is a graduate of Medford High school and is a senior majoring in elemen tary education at the Corvallis college. Mr. Monk is a graduate of Ventura High school and the Oregon State university's school of business. He is with the re gional office of the Standard Oil Company of California in Portland. A summer wedding is plan ned. Couple Honored On Anniversary The home of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Pedley was the scene of a dinner given October 1 in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Shaw in observance of their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. The dinner table was deco rated in pink with a centerpiece of pink and dubonnet chrysan themums, the anniversary cake was decorated with silver bells. Mr. ana Mrs. Shaw were given a silver dish by the five couples attending the dinner. The Shaws were married in Seattle, Wash., and have lived the past 12 years in Medford. Showers Honor I Bride-Elect; 1 Rites Today Miss Patricia Goltz. whose marr.age to Douglas Fisher is set for this afternoon at 3 o'clock in First Baptist church, has been honored at a series of bridal showers. The first was given in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ross J. Turman, 211R Griffin Creek road, when the Misses Carol Libby, Ellen Montgomery and Lorette Turman were hostesses. Sixteen guests were present. Gifts for the home were pre sented to the honored guest. The next was given by em ployees from the International Business Machines department at Harry and David's Bear Creek orchards. The bride-elect is an employee of the olfice. She was given gifts for her new kitchen. The most recent shower giv en October 1 was held in the Fireplace room of First Baptist church. Mrs. Donald Minear, Mrs. Ervin P. Peters and Mrs. Walter Olson were the host esses. Twenty-four guests at tended. I J Miss Karen Morlan Style Show Set Today SHADY COVE-A style show is planned for this afternoon by members of Bethel 55, Interna tional Order of Job's Daughters. The event is to be staged at 2:30 p.m., in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ackerman, Eagle Point. All types of clothing for young women, from formal to casual wear, will be modeled by the members. Girls and young women from 12 through high school age, who are interested and who are eligible for the order are invited Mothers of members and guar dians also are bidden to attend. She will be here as a district representative for ESTARL committee of the grand chapter and will report on the latest mlormation on awards made under this na tional project for students train ing in religious leadership. Mrs. Ralph Johnson and J. E. Vincent, worthy matron and pa tron, will preside. Mrs. James Hopkins is re freshment chairman. The bride-elect is a gradual of Medford High school and at tended Southern Oregon colleen for two years. She is a senior in general social science at the University of Oregon. Mr. Korth, a graduate of Phoenix High school, also at tended Southern Oregon college and is a senior at the Univer sity of Oregon majoring in art education. He plans to enter the Armed services in No vember. An early summer wedding is planned.
