Vr Henley High Rallies Over Eagle Point EAGLE POINT - Henley high's Hornets came from be hind with two touchdowns in the final quarter Friday night to nip the Eagle Point Eagles 14 to 13 in a Rogue league football game at Henley. Eagle Point with markers in the first and second periods had a 13 to 0 halftime lead. Kim Hale scored first for Hen ley on a two yard run then Bugs Lewis journeyed 30 yards to the goal. Bill Fisher ran one bonus and Lewis kicked the other that meant the victory margin. Eagle Point drove 80 yards in 11 plays to the goal in the open ing panel. House went across from three yards away. A 60 yard run by Dale Chamberlain had been nullified by a pushing penalty during this drive. Bob Colpitis in the second quarter sneaked over from a yard out and passed to Cham berlain for an extra point. Cham berlain set up the score with a pass interception run from the Henley 45-yard line to the 14. S Quarters, 3 Minutes "Our kids did real well," said Eagle Coach Vern Steward. "They showed improvement with crisp tackling and sharp Mocking for three quarters and three minutes." He reported that Bill Ayres was removed from the game at that point for "being a little too aggressive." "We had them on the run until then," said Steward, "and then everything went bad." The coach remarked that the Eagles were hurt by penalties and fumbles. "We have elim inated the gross errors," he re ported, "and are down to the little ones. We may be a spoil er." Steward cited the line defense of Dan Loper, Ayres, Morgan Miller, Dave Blair and Dan Colcleaser and pass defense of House and Colpitis. He said that Chamberlain, Bob Corliss and Vic Eccleston demonstrated im proved performance with key slops. On offense Miller was steady si center and guard Blair and hacks Chamberlain and House did good blocking work. Blair was effective against Roger Var go. Denver all-city lineman now with the Hornets. The Dodger physician said Friday that it may not be pos sible to decide he can play un til just helore the first game with the Yankees in New York. McMullen reinjured the mus cle in his left leg Thursday night while running out a double against the New York Mets. He had pulled the muscle earlier in the season. The Grizzly Cubs held a 13 to 0 margin at the halt. Gene Willis was the big of fensive gun for Ashland. He scored two touchdowns and kicked two extra points. Willis ran into the pay zone from a yard out for the first score after his long run had set up the chance. Lonnie Slack next scored for Ashland on a five-yard end run. Willis also went five yards for the last Lilhian TD to end a long march. McLoughlin scored off a drive for 60 yards with Phil Taylor going the last five yards. Taylor also ran the conversion. It was 40 to 6 at halftime and 47 to 6 when intermission No. 3 was called. 61-Yard March Granby's runback was to the 11-yard line and Jim Consbruck boomed from there for the first of his three touchdowns. In the second quarter Lex Hamilton wrestled the ball from a Trojan after a pass had been completed. Ramon Mata fell on the pigskin to set the stage for a 54-yard sally. Ken Hawkins scored on a five yard keep. A Hawkins to Sauer pass was good for 39 yards to set another TD stage. Sauer went the last half-yard with 21 seconds left and Grahams kick was good. Hill Intercepts In the third period Eugene Hill snared a Scared Heart pass on the Trojan 39. Graham went around end to the goal and thumped the extra counter. They edged Lakeview 13 to 6, breaking a 6-all deadlock with a fourth quarter touchdown and conversion. Rogue River drove 79 yards for the winning marker. Alan Gates had a 30-yard run along the way and also covered the last yard. Larry Craig ran the extra point. Meisner Goes 5(1 The Chiefs scored in the first quarter on a 35-yard run by Gates. Neil Meisner ran 50 yards in the second quarter for the Honker touchdown. Gates' speed and fair RR blocking led bv fullback Craig and guard Bob Pentecost worked to shape the victory along with good defense. Controlling the ball for most of the game with a devastating ground attack, the Sooners made their fust visit ever to Los An geles a memorable one despite a field temperature of 109 de grees. It was the first setback for Southern California since 19G1. The Trojans won all 10 of their regularly scheduled games last year and then knocked off Wis consin in the Rose Bowl, First Touchdown Oklahoma packed all its scor ing into the first half. The first touchdown resulted from a 66 yard drive engineered by sopho more quarterback Mike Ringer and was culminated by halfback Joe Dan Looney, who carried over from the 19. The Sooners also scored on a four-yard run by Ringer and a 43-yard field goal by George Jarman. Staubach connected on 12 of 17 passes for 206 yards and also gained 91 yards rushing in 17 carries. (UPI) - Sam Price's twisting, nine-yard touchdown run, plus a field goal and a charging line which ston- i ped California's passing attack, added up to a 10-0 Illinois vic tory over the Golden Bears Sat urday. California's passer Craig Mor ton completed only five passes as the Illini forwards harried him with a murderous rush. Seven times Morton was thrown for losses and the Illini inter cepted two or his passes. Illi nois dominated play so com pletely in the third period that California had only five plays. Illinois marched 50 yards at the beginning of the third quarter before losing the ball on the California five. On the next play, Tom Blanchficld fumbled and big George Don nelly recovered for Illinois on the 13. Halfback Price made four yards on his first try and then bolted over for the touchdown. (UPI) Ron Coates booted a 32-yard fourth quarter field goal Saturday to give Penn State a hard earned 17-14 victory over underrated UCLA. Coates had to do it twice. His first try of 27 yards went be tween the bars but Penn State incurred a five-yard penalty be cause it had five men in its backfield. The second try split the posts as cleanly as the first. Penn Slate took a 14-7 half- time lead in an oddity which saw all three touchdowns scored in the final four minutes of the first half.
