Zumwalt, 40, of 42 Rose ave., Mcdford, last night was lodged in the Jackson coun ty jail on charges of driving while under the influence of in toxicating liquor, slate police said. Police said her car went off Crater Lake highway near Shady Cove and had sideswiped a pickup truck near Prospect earlier last night. A rear-end collision occurred on the Jacksonville highway at Ross lane yesterday. No injur ies were reported. A car driven by Betty Blossom Thompson, 39, of 3200 Jacksonville high way, hit the rear of a car dri ven by Joyce Claire Sicleras, 38, of route 4, box 307, Medford, police said. The Sidcias car was making a left turn onto Ross lane at the time. Betty Thompson was cited by police for following too close. Brown Thursday night asked western Democrats to "take off the gloves" and force the Re publican party to come to terms with the "radical right." He spoke at a dinner session of the 13-state Western Demo cratic Conference, alternately attacking the GOP and praising the accomplishments of Presi-1 dent John F. Kennedy. Brown said the Republicans ! can't "pay lip service to Abra- j ham Lincoln, while they em brace rabble-rousing Birchers who would leave the fate of American Negroes in the tender hands of (Alabama Gov. George) Wallace. "They can't preach law and order while they swing into line beside those who call for the impeachment of (Chief Justice) Earl Warren and those who cry 'bomb Cuba now'," he said. The California governor said Republicans need to draw a "clear line between the goals of Abraham Lincoln and the objec tives of Robert Welch." Welch heads the John Birch Society. "I call on Democrats to get in the fight to show the Birchers for what they arc racists, warmongers, hatcmongers and apostles of nonthink," Brown told the Democrats. A large part of Brown's talk was devoted to praise for the Kennedy administration's record in the West. He said that the administra tion had reversed the Eisenhow er policy of no new starts on water or power projects and had begun work on 74 major projects and 79 smaller projects.
