SECTION B PAGES 1 to 10 MEDFOMtfatTRIBUNt THURSDAY. SEPT. 12. 1963 Dr. Fincke Named Department Head At Oregon State CORVALLIS-Appointment of Dr. Mirgaret L. Fincke, head of the foods and nutrition depart ment, as acting dean of the school of home economics at Oregon State university was an nounced Tuesday by President' James H. Jensen. 1 Dr. Fincke will serve as act-! Ing dean for the 1963-64 school year during the absence of Dr. j Miriam G. Scholl who has re quested a leave for the coming ; academic year to undertake special studies. This will be Dean Scholl's first leave since joining the OSU staff in 1954. Dr. Fincke, a nationally known home economist, has been a member of the foods and nutrition faculty at OSU since 1935 and head of the department since 1945. She began a two-year term in June as national president of Omicron Nu, national honorary society in home economics, which has about 20.000 mem bers and chapters in 45 col leges and universities. President of Assiciation Dr. Fincke also is 1963-64 president of the Oregon Diet etics association; was a mem ber for three years of the Foods and Nutrition Board of the Na tional Research Council; and was chairman of the foods and nutrition section of the Amcri- j can Home Economics associa-, tion. She has traveled widely and spent six months as visiting pro fessor of home economics and consultant at Kasetsart univer sity in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1955-56. More recently she at tended the International Bin chemical Congress in Moscow, Russia, in 1961. Dr. Fincke is author or co author of several publications, technical and scientific papers. She served as acting dean once previously during the absence inf former Dean Ava Milam Clark. The appointment was ap proved by the state board of higher education at its Septem ber meeting. Woman Injured in Highway Accident A 53-year-old Central Point woman was injured in a rear end collision on Crater Lake highway six miles from Med-1 ford Tuesday night, state police ! said. Irene Plina Smith, Central Point, suffered facial injuries. She was a passenger in a car driven by George David Smith, 53, Central Point. The Smith car hit the rear of car driven by Charles Henry Hoffmeister, 75. of 122 Port land ave., Medford, police said. Both cars were going south. Smith was cited for nn opera tor's license, officers said. A three car collision occurred on Vilas rd. at Table Rock rd., yesterday afternoon, state po lice said. A pickup truck towing a homemade trailer operated by : .Gustavus Pratt Clerin, 66. of SO05 Southwest Valley View i Court, Portland, going east on i Vilas rd., proceeded into the Table Rock rd. intersection and into the path of a car driven by Peter Robert Bateman, 58, of 3008 Table Rock rd., Medford. The Bateman car hit the truck and trailer in the rear and spun it around, state police said. It hit a car operated by Jerry Everett Michael, 22 of 1225 East 11th St., Medford, police laid. The trailer also hit a power pole. First Issue ot New Magazine Published CORV ALUS First issue of a new business magazine, "North west Business Management," has been published by the Ore gon State university school of business and technology. The magazine will be pub lished four times a year. It is limed at helping small and medium sized business firms in the Northwest. Editor is Jack L. Rcttig of the business school staff. Other faculty members on the edi torial board include Jack Blue stein. Homer M. Dalbey. Rich ard J. Hopeman and Fred E. Winger. Free copies of the first issue are available on request, Rcttig said. The subscription rate for subsequent issues will be $4 per year.
