I'JM Fall clothing from Jean Hart's store will be modeled at the annual show which Beta Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will give Thursday. September 12, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hearin, 2517 East Main street, Medford. Among the models will be Mrs. Arvin Reynolds (at left) and Mrs. Sheridan Scott; Mrs. Reynolds is wearing a green jumper suit by De De Johnson, and Mrs. Scott a blue Helga original. Their hair is styled by Rose's Beauty center. The show is open to the public. Garden Meeting ASHLAND - Dr. Adele Thompson's garden on Beswick Way was the setting last Wed nesday evening for the first fall meeting of Ashland Business and Professional Women's club. A covered-dish picnic dinner was followed by the business session conducted by Mrs. Vir ginia Westerfield. Discussion of the ensuing year's program and projects and acceptance of the budget gave members an opportunity to learn of the local and national interests. Plans were made for the an nual observance of National Business and Professional Wo- Held by Group men's Week in October. An af ternoon tea is to open the week's events which will include the club banquet when the year's outstanding member will be named "BEEP." During the informal evening of summer travel reports, club ac tivities and fund raising results were discussed. Two newcomers from Eu gene, Miss Betty Kimball and Miss Joanne Widness, were guests at the picnic meeting. When using a ladder on soft ground, put each leg of the ladder into a one-pound coffice can firmly secured. Important Coming Event Is Annual Fashion Show An important event on the calendar this week is the sec ond annual fashion show of Beta Upsilon chapter, Beta Sigma Phi. It is set for Thursday, September 12, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hearin 2517 East Main street. Theme for this year's show is "Hootenany". Local entertain ers will perform throughout the show. Clothing will be from Jean Hart's, hair styles will be by Rose's Beauty center, and jewelry will be from Weisficlds store. Modeling for the show will be Miss Brenda Carr, Miss Jan Plumley, Miss Sue Plumley, Miss Pam Trowbridge, M r s. Randy Hugdahl, Mrs. Arvin Reynolds, Mrs. E. D. Davis, Mrs. E. A. Littrell, Mrs. Sheri dan Scott, Mrs. C. Rease Bra ley, and Mrs. Robert Evans. Families Return From Coast Trip SHADY COVE-Several fam ilies from Shady Cove, with others from Eagle Point and Medford, returned home the first of last week after being at Surfside on the southern Oregon coast for the four-day week end. On the trip were Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Spain and son, Bruce; Mr. and Mrs. Ted G. Jantzer and sons, Michael and Monty, and daughter, Joyce; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hale and daughter, Carol and son, Kev in; Mrs. Mary Hale and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kelly, all Shady Cove; Richard Ayres, Eagle Point and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis L. Jantzer and daughter, Janice, Medford. Youths Attend Ashland Festival Denny Frybeck and Dan Hursh, Corvallis, Ore. have re turned to their home after com ing here to attend the Oregon Shakespearean festival in Ash land. The boys spent two nights camped in tents in the park, and then visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kent, 922 South Oakdale avenue. The boys came by auto with a parent, and returned home on their bicycles. Other recent guests in the Kent home were Mr. and Mrs. Dave Wiiiiams and daughters, Molly and Sarah, Eugene, Ore. The Williams played in the Southern Oregon golf tourna ment at Rogue Valley Country club last week end. After having had a very suc cessful show last year at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Skinner, the chapter planned to make the event an annual proj ect. Proceeds go to a scholarship fund for a young woman stu dent at Southern Oregon college. Tickets for the event will be available at Jean Hart's, Rose Beauty center, Rogue Valley Manor, any member of Beta Upsilon chapter, or by calling Mrs. Calvin McKibben, 664-2602. Toastmistress Club To Meet Autumn programs for the Medford Toastmistress club will be based on the theme, "A String of Pearls." The first meeting of the fall season is scheduled for Wednesday, Sep tember 11 at 8 p.m., in the Girls Community club. Mrs. C. E. Goodwin will be Toastmistress for the evening. Topic mistress will be Mrs. Ben L. Wells. Mrs. C. A. Thatcher, Mrs. Thomas Lorenz and Miss Voda Brower will be speakers on the topic, "Knowing Your Goals." Club members and their fam ilies met in late August at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. George Watson on Applugate river. Mrs. W. G. Beard was topic mistress when all who at tended participated in the sub ject, "Good Old Days.' Church Women Slate Program A panel discussion on the Holy Spirit in the lives of mis sionaries in Brazil will be on the program for Women's fel lowship of First Baptist church Tuesday, August 10. The group will meet in the fireplace room of the church on Crater Lake avenue. The session will begin at 12:30 p.m., with dessert lunch eon served by members of the Martha circle. Mrs- Samuel Jones, circle leader, will be in charge. Mrs. Richard Miller will lead the. discussion assisted by Mrs. Wayne Taylor, Mrs. Rob ert Paeth and Mrs. Warren Smith. After the program a business meeting will be con ducted with Mrs. Ronald Bren neman presiding. A nursery will be provided. All interested women of the church are invited. Family Host To Guests; Students Leave Eagle Point Mr. and Mrs. Charles Martin and children, Marty, Karen, Dayn and Jeff, 18 West Sixth street, Eagle Point, were hosts last week end in their summer home at Lake of the Woods to several valley residents. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Callaghan and daugh ters, the Misses Joan and Ellen Callaghan, Eagle Point; Jerry Shults and Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Payne and son, John Payne, all Medford. Miss Joan Callaghan, who earlier this year was chosen Miss Rogue Valley, left Friday for San Francisco to enroll in a Powers Modeling school. Jerry Shults will return to Southern Oregon college this fall and Miss Ellen Callaghan soon will enter her senior year at University of Oregon. John Payne, who is beginning his first year of teaching in Maple ton, Ore., is a Southern Oregon college graduate. He will be teaching mathematics, science, physical education, and coach the school's basketball team. Senior Activity Center Spanish Classes Resume C 5 Spanish classes at the Senior Activity center, 601 East Jack son street, will reconvene for the fall and winter sche d u 1 e Monday, September 9 at 10 a.m. All former class members and beginners are invited to join the group which will be taught by Mrs. Alicia Carter. Those who have Spanish text books used In previous classes MOLB Session Is Announced; Group Returns Roguette circle, Military Or der of Lady Bugs, will convene Tuesday, September 10 at 8 p.m., in the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, 42 North Front street. Mrs. Dale Sawyer will be in charge of serving refreshments. Members of the Military Order of Cooties will be guests. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Schulz, Mrs. Con Rost and Mrs. Ben F. Allison recently returned from Seattle where they attend ed a national convention of the groups and the Veterans of For eign Wars. A fall council of administra tion for MOLB and MOC is set for September 14 and 15 in Prineville. are asked to take them, and note books and paper will be required. The text book to be used for the session will be an nounced at the first class, which will continue until noon. Men members of the class have been requested to arrive early to assist Frank Grey, the host, arrange the room for the class. Members also are invited to remain for the Arm Chair Travel program which meets each Monday afternoon. The Arm Chair Travelers will meet at 1:30 p.m., according to Dr. Frank Roberts, leader. In the past the group has met at 1 p.m. Ray Neptune of Rogue Val ley Manor will show colored slides of a recent trip through Oregon, Washington and west ern Canada. Included will be: the Portland Rose festival pa- rade, scenes from Hurricane ridge in the Olympic peninsula and a boat trip on Lake Chelan, j Last week Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pramann of Ashland gave a pro gram on the history of battle i grounds and monuments of the j Civil war. Members of the oil painting class which meets on Tuesday last week viewed miniat u r e paintings done by Mrs. Agnes' Sowers, Gold Hill, and a picture painted by F. E. Friden, Rogue River, of Mrs. John Kennedy, wife of the president, and their children. Mrs.LenaGapserson.a former class member who has returned from California after a year's absence, has rejoined the class. The Senior Center orchestra will play Thursday, September 12 at the Jackson County Farm home and will have no practice session at the center on that date. The group is to meet at the home at 1 p.m., that day. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hunt, Stockton, Calif., active members of a senior center there, visited the orchestra class last week meet each Saturday afternoon. The first Wednesday of each month will be scheduled for the Senior Craftsmen project. The receiving committee will meet new craftsmen from 10 a.ra to 2 p.m., and a meeting of the jury and design committee will be held the same day from 4 to 5 p.m. Craftsmen are invited to take their items to the center Wed nesday, September 11.
