Federal Power Bill Clears Committee Washington - IUPD - The House Rules committee today cleared legislation to give the Pacific Northwest first call on federal power produced in the area. The bill, already passed by the Senate but amended by the House Interior committee, was cleared for two hours of debate and for a vote by the House. The legislation was designed to pave the way for construc tion of transmission lines to carry surplus power from fed eral dams in the Pacific Northwest to California. However, the House version of the bill would require the Interior Department to get congressional approval for the construction of federal trans-1 mission lines outside the Pa-! cific Northwest.
