T" t 6 A Dedication Scheduled for First Christian Church ' Dedication of the new First. Christian church at 1900 Cra ter Lake ave. will be Sunday at 3 p.m. ' Dr. Charles H. Addleman, Woodburn, past executive secretary of the Oregon Chris tian Missionary society, will give the dedicatory address. Two former ministers will take part in the program: Dr. D. E. Milliard, Eagle Point, who was the pastor from 1919 to 1922, and the Rev. E. M. Patterson, Turner, Ore., who ministered in 1902 in the orig inal church at Sixth and Ivy sts. Mr. Patterson is the old est living former pastor of the I CHARLES ADDLEMAN Dedication Speaker church. The Rev. Delbert Troxell, formerly of Mcdford missionary to Japan will also participate in the program Mayor James J. Dunlevy will I speak on behalf of the city. Methodists List Activities During Coming Week "A Higher Spiritual Order" will be the topic of Dr. George Roseberry's Bermon at First Methodist church Sunday. Omar Bacon will assist In the service. 1 The youth choir will sing "Praise to the Lord, the Al mighty" by Davis at the 9:30 a.m. service. The soloist for the 11 a.m. service will be Miss Sharon Smith. She will sing "This Is My Prayer" by Newman. The Junior High Methodist Youth Fellowship will meet at the church at 6:30 p.m. Rich ard and Ken Dickson will give the devotions. There will be a fireside at the home of Jo Anne Longmore, 144S John son st. There will be no Senior High MYF this week, because many of the young people will attend Senior High Institute at Indian Springs camp. ' The Builders class will hold their adult summer party Thursday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Milton Snow, 3817 Grant rd., Central Point. All members are invited to attend and take their swim suits. Dessert will be served. The guests of honor are Mr. and Mrs, Robert Hosteller. ; The Young Adult Searchers will meet at 7:30 p.m., Thurs day, Aug. 1, at the home of Marge Sandfort, 10 Highland dr. The Rev. Lochlen Greg ory, Community Methodist church, Gold Hill, will show slides he took when he hiked the Appalachian trail. There will be a Methodist Men's cabinet meeting Thurs day, Aug. l, at 7:43 p.m. at the cnurcn. Two Girls Attend Convention in East Miss Body Jo Howell, Tal ent, left July 24, for Wash ington, D.C., as a delegate to the Lutheran church, Mis souri Synod, Walther League convention from the Grace Lutheran church, Ashland. She was accompanied by Miss Karen Hinrichs, Aahland The girls left for Portland where they Joined other dele gates and Leaguers from Ore gun and Washington. T h group traveled by train, ar riving in Washington, D. C, July 28. They will attend the con vention three days and the Northwest delegation will slay two days longer for sight seeing trips in the capital. The group will arrive back in Portland Aug. 6. Miss Howell will remain there a few days longer visit ing a friend, Miss Ann Han son. Miss Howell will be a sen ior at Phoenix High school this fall. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles How ell, 212 Gibson St., Talent. Miss Hinrichs' parents are Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hinrichs, 1710 Harmony circle, Ash-j land. " 9 FRIDAY. Mrs. Ralph Matlack will sing "Open the Gates of the Temple" and the combin ed choirs of the church will sing two anthems, "O Thou Whose Own Vast Temple Stands" and "Christ is Made the Sure Foundation." Dr. W. D. McGraw, district superintendent of the Oregon Pacific district Church of the Nainrene, was reelected at the district assembly and given a near unanimous call for an ad ditional three years term. Mr Slimier was reelected as s member of the district ad vlsory board and as a dele gate to next years General As sembly of the denomination which is to be held In Port land June 18 to 26. The Gen eral Assembly is the govern ing body of the church and meets once every four years. Headquarters are located in Kansas City, Mo. In addition to assisting the local congregation in its evangelism, the youth 1957 Award of Merit Winner CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council Local Adventists Return From Annual More than 3,000 Adventist laymen from 371 churches in the Pacific Northwest are at tending the Laymen's Con gress which began Wednes day, July 24, at Gladstone park near Portland, The three-day congress was scheduled to follow the annual Oregon conference campmect ing session which was held at the Park, July 10 to 20, with many of the pastors and con ference officials remaining at the camp for the event The purpose of the meet is to inspire and train laymen in effective methods of lay evangelism and Christian wel fare and uplift activities ac cording to H. L. Rudy, Ore gon conference president. "Laymen on the March for Christ" is the theme of the congress. Delegates Chosen Official delegates to the congress have been chosen from churches throughout the North Pacific Union confer ence, which Is composed of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, Alberta and Alaska. Schoen, associate secre taries in the department, College Girls Trio To Give Concert The Waldorf College Girls Trio of Forest City, Iowa, will present a concert of sacred music in Ascension Lutheran church, 2617 Barnett rd., on Tuesday, July 30, at 8 p. m. Though organized as a trio for three years, this is the first time they have gone on tour. Their schedule will in clude 60 concerts In a two month period and will include eleven Midwestern and West ern states. Members of the trio are Diane and Camillc Daniclson. Ellsworth, Iowa, and Barbara Osnes, Forest City, Iowa. The concert will include vocal trios, duets and solos, plus piano and trumpet solos. The rcpetoire includes such favor ites as, "All Glory, Laud, and Honor," "O Dearest Jesus," "Balm In Gilead," "Wondrous Love," "Sleep, Dear Son of Heaven." and many others. Youth Caravaners Ashland Guests Ashland - A team of three teen-agers, called Youth Caravaners, will be the guests of Grace Lutheran church, Ashland, July 30 to Aug. 2. The three Caravaners are trav eling for the Walther League, International youth organiza tion and official youth pro gram of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The Caravan team is com posed of Marilyn Fritz, God frey, 111.; Delene Jensen, Salt Lake City, and Paul Nordeen of St. Paul, Minn. The team is designed to assist local Lu theran congregations with their youth program. These young people were chosen from many applicants, be cause of their work with young people in their own con gregations and areas. The Caravaners will assist the youth in devotional serv ices, topic discussions, service projects, recreational and fel lowship sessions. The five- point program of the Walther League - worship, education, fellowship, service and recrea tion will be explained to the youth, their parents, coun selors, and other adults of Grace Lutheran church. While the Caravaners are guests of Grace Lutheran church, they will meet with Walther League officers, with counselors, with all the young people of the congregation and with adult members of the congregation. It is also planned that they be shown the city of Ashland and attend one of the Shakespeare plays. Youth counselors for the congrcgaiton are: Charles Means, Wendcl Grimm and Mrs. H. M. Schilling. Carver will return to the pulpit of the Apostolic Faitn cnurcn Sunday morning after having hn ahspnt for the oast three weeks. He and Mrs. Carver and their daughter, Rebecca as well as scores of the Med ford church members, attend orf the Aoostolic Faith camp meeting in Portland. This campmeeting - convention is held annually ai me orgam'- 1 1 o n's permanent camp grounds in Portland, in a tabernacle seating z,uu per sons. The hundreds of members and friends who came from many parts of the United states and from Canada and Mpvir-n wpre house in the 600 cabins and tents on the erounds. Intense evangelism and Bible study were the theme of the convention. Prayer services began at 6 a.m. followed by Bible teachings, youth services and evangelistic meetings in the evening. Mr. Carver was a member of the ministers' teaching staff and his subjects included "Justification b y Faith" and "Pure Religion." Assistant pastor, the Rev. Clifford Frlesen, was a featur ed speak in the evangelistic services. Local Services Sunday services at the local church will open with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. The Pri mary and Junior departments will be represented by Danny, Donny and Lori Walden sing ing "He is Mine, Hallelujah," and Jackie Barnes reciting the 23rd Psalm. The 42-piece orchestra under the direction of William E. Walden will lead the singing at the 11 a.m. servie. At 3 p.m. the young people will hold their service, with youth leader Mr. Friesen in charge. At 6:15 p.m. a team of Gospel workers will be at the Veterans Administration domiciliary to minister to the residents there, after which they will return to participate in the 8 p.m. evangelistic service at the church. The full schedule of serv ices will be resumed, with Sunday services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m., worship 11 .m., young people's meeting p.m. evangelistic service 7:50 p.m. and Tuesday and Friday services at 8 p.m. each week. Congregationalism Set Lake Service The Medford Congregation al church Sunday will join with the Congregational churches of Ashland, Klamath Falls and Roseburg for the group's annual felowship pic nic and service of worship at Crater Lake. The members and friends of the four Congregational churches in southern Oregon will meet at Discovery point on the west rim of Crater lake for a picnic, beginning at noon. Each family attending will take its own picnic food and equipment. Following the picnic a serv ice of worship will be held on the rim overlooking the lake at Discovery point. It will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Otte, rrfinister of the First First Congregational church, Ashland, and his father, a minister from Iowa. The serv ice will begin at 1:30 p. m. The Congregational church will not have a regular morn ing service of worship on Sun day morning. Eastwood Baptists Announce Speaker Sunday at Eastwood Bap tist church at the morning worship service Dr. Clifford Miller of Southern Oregon college will be guest speaker. Carroll Grabcr is arranging a musical trio. The pastor, the Rev. Clif ford J. Young, will leave Sunday morning for Myrtle wood, where he is director of the American Baptist Junior camp.
