At 11:30 a m. a high mass will be un( by the Very Rev. Carl Mai, assisted by servers from the Knights of the Altar. Music will be furnished by the Marian cho.T. Following the mass a sol emn public procession will proceed around the outside of the church, then reenter for the celebration of Benedic tion of the Blessed Sacrament. According to Father Mai, the actual institution of the sacrament is commemorated on Thursday of Holy Week, but because of church pre occupation with the other solemn observances during that time, the feast of Corpus Christi was established in the 13th century to call attention to the sacrament of the Eucharist. Gold Hill Pastor Is Reappointed Gold Hill The Rev. Loch- len L. Gregory has been re appointed to serve as pastor of Gold Hill Community. Methodist church for the con ference year. He was among more than 300 Methodist ministers and laymen who attended the an nual session of Oregon An nual Conference meetings last week at Salem. He has been pastor here since October, 1960. .The sermon message will be given by Mr. Gregory dur lng the 11 a.m. worship hour Sunday. Br DAVID MYDICX UPI Education Specialist Parents and children pres ently art making plans for the summer vacation. One de cision concerns the continua tion of academic activities versus relaxation and recre ational activities. The answer depends upon the needs of the individual. The majority of children probably should have a vaca tion away from educational pressures. They have worked hard during the year meeting the demands of the school program. They will appreci ate the opportunity to live without the tight routines of school schedule. This does not mean complete chaos but does mean a relaxed plan. Naturally there are many ways to spend summer away from academic pressures. The choice should involve the child's interests, abilities and age. Many Situations Although most students will spend their vacation away from rigid routines. there are many special situa tions to be considered. Care ful evaluation should be giv en to decisions which might involve studies during the summer. College students sometimes want to attend summer classes In order to graduate early. If this Is for monetary reasons, they should think about earn ing money at a summer job which could help pay winter expenses. Besides the money, they will be gaining valuable experience and a change of pace. Special seminars in which college students travel and study abroad can be desirable, There Is value in activities of this nature where students gain first hand experience and pursue their specific in' terests. Very Little Choice Secondary svhool students who have to make up courses may have very little choice. In such cases the school often requires attendance for part oi tne summer. At the elementary level. you will not find very many regular summer school pro grams. Most plans are for In dividual or small group tutor ing. Some students with psy chological or physical prob lems may benefit from pro grams of this nature. This matter should be discussed with the professional respon sible for guiding your child. Some individuals, regard less of level, require a con stant rigid structure, stopping during the summer months might be destructive. The summer is a time for a child to have fun and build experiences other than in the academic subjects. Enjoyable courses in which a child has specific interest can be In. eluded in summer plans.
