The slim right-hander, whose unusual semi-underhand delivery and sinker ball made him a sensation as a 30- year-old rookie in 1Z7, naa m taken critically ill In ' t Worth. Tex., a week ago ' died at his home where he had returned to convalesce. Services will be held In the Hollii First Methodist church at 3 p.m., today. Moore's career was meteoric and ' relatively brief. H e pitched in the majors from 1927 through 1933, five years with the Yankees and two with the Boston Red Sox, and had a 61-44 lifetime won-and-lost record. In 1927, however, he was such a sensation that he is identified with the '27 Yankee team-often referred to as the greatest In baseball hlstory almost as readily as are Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Herb Pen nock and Waite Hoyt. The Medford Black Torna do tallied 50 markers in Its division to 45'2 by Grants Pass and 35 Va by Klamath Falls. Bend's Lava Bears roll ed up 60'i in Class B. Crater had 39 'i ana Ashland 17, St. Mary's scored 52V4 in C to edge Phoenix's 4614. Myrtle Creek had 3414 and Weed 21. Canyonville beat out Bonanza in Class D by a half - point 46 to 452. Glen dale had 35 and Elkton 34 '2. Medford's Jim Hill, along with anchoring a couple of winning relay teams, success fully defended his invitation al 100 - yard dash title with a 10 seconds flat performance. Roy Shaw, Medford, won the invitational high hurdles in 15.3 and Dennis Brumback made it a clean Tornado sweep in the Invite runs with 4:39.5 in the mile. Myrtle Creek won three including a share of one event. Eagle Point and Weed, Calif., each had firsts. Bonanza captured four events, and Glendale, Canyon ville and Elkton each three. Days Creek took one. Medford triumphed in thf sprint relay, the two - mile, the mile, and the broad jump, the sprint medley and the half-mile relay. Grants Pass was winner of the shuttle hur dles 'and distance medley. Gary Van Koten took the pole vault and Bob Shepard the high jump for the Cavemen. Mills won the shot and dis cus and Smith the javelin for Klamath Falls. Bend had victories in the shuttles, the distance medley, the two mile, relay, the mile relay, the sprint medley and the 880 relay. The Bears tied with Crater in the sprint re- Jay. Jim Leagjcld grabbed the shot put and javelin for Bend and Ward the discus. Paul Bransom took the broad Jump for Crater with the day's best Jump of 20 feet 8 inches. Jim Lamb won the high jump for Ashland. Jim Calhoun with a day s lops of 193-1 won the javelin for St. Mary's which was also victor in the distance and sprint medleys, the sprint re lay and two mile relay. Jon Granby took first in the shot put for Phoenix with a best for all classes of 52-4 V4. Phoe nix also won the mile and 880 relays. Don Salyor of Rogue Riv er won three events, the high jump, pole vault and 70-yard high hurdles. He set a new school record in the pole vault at 12 feet, breaking the 11 foot 6 inch mark set in 1960 by Art Johanscn. Rogue River swept the mile run and had a 12-yard lead in the 440 relay but dropped the baton at the last exchange. R. - (UPD - Last night's scheduled World Lightweight C h amptonship bout between champion Car los Ortiz of New York and Doug Vaillant of Cuba was postponed when Ortiz was taken sick. The champion, scheduled to make the second defense of the crown he won from Joe Brown last year, failed to show up for the weigh-in. It was announced that he was ill with stomach pains and vomiting and the fight was postponed. A new date was not immediately announced.
