WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20. 1963 12 B iRaincoat Shines in All-Weaiher Fabrics, Colors MEDFOHD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON Stepping elegantly Into the potlight is white fur for both late day and evening wear. White mink and ermine will be seen in softly-draped cape lets and small stoles. Styled in fluid wrap-around lines are natural white broad tail lamb jackets with push-up sleeves and a cowl collar that can be worn as a hood for cooler occasions. White fox, in one or more tiers, in capelets, and stole styles, is a perrenial favorite. A raincoat is not a raincoat but rather a coat that "shines" in the rain and looks like a million under the sun Water-repellent, often mili um lined for all-weather com fort, new coats for rainy days come in Just about every 1963 style . . . every fiber . . . every fabric. . The topcoat comes back! S t r e a m 1 i n e d for the new season, it's slim but not skinny, tailored but not man tailored. Designed as the cov- x '"'V'- -I,'C IS! f KNIT WOOL-Spring ensemble pairs a femininely-fitted wool knit dress and matching jacket, shaped like a shirt with notched collar and revers, buttoned cuffs and high pockets. Trend to open-air casualness is reflected in costume's con trast saddle stitching. By Tricosa-Feder of Paris. Easter Tailleur Goes Continental Spring's a-coming and so is Easier, and everything - but everything - In coats and suits - seems to be new in fashion feeling! There's a certain un conventional, perhaps conti nental feel to these fashions, which Miss and Mrs. America has learned to know - and to love! With Important inspiration borrowed from the Italian, the French, the Oriental influ ences, in fact, the world -new lines and detailings come to the fore with a definite elegant approach! First - there's never been such an exciting variety of fas cinating fabric. New blends, new color combinations and new treatments for old-standby fabrics create this fabric furore. Slim Line Coats . , . tunic length or full-length, the slim straight line is important, particularly with low, at-the-hip detailing or back belt . , . fitted coats look newest in slimmed ver sions with modified flared, and long torso, low fullness . . . semi-fitted coats with box styling and the classic chester field all tell the long torso story . . . flared coats are news when the fullness starts from a high, back line with straight front - or flares smoothly Into the A-line. All new suit and coat fash ions wear a cool, uncluttered look! The important grace notes appear in flat collars, low cut necklines, scarved or cardigan necklines - and In sleeves that roll-up, push-up or are simply cut shorterl CHANEL TOUCH The Chanel touch again and again for spring especially In white as contrasting braid boundaries and sets of patch pockets appear as current rav orites on suits and coats. erall, it's the raincoat style most likely to succeed for rain ... or shine ... for day or night. Like the once good box coat . . . like the still good Chesterfield, it is sleeker with a bit of tapering at the hemline. A bit of ease at the back and a smooth single breasted front. Topcoat Back The topcoat comes back taking the place of the long-tlme-A-line, to develop "a new main line" in spring rain coats. The coat style that's mov ing in at front and out at back is the number two rain coat. It's destined to be a fa vorite among the more fash' ion-conscious where better fabrics, better tailoring hold the more shapely line. How. ever, more popular-p r i c e d manufacturers turn to lami' nated fabrics for in and out shaping. Or . . . simply simu late the look with non-functional front seaming. The shaped coat (at any price) is more often dressed up In silk and silky fabrics. The poncho is bigger and better this spring. The favo rite slips over the head or has a front closing and casual ly fastens at the sides. Many reverslbles in ponchos flip from wool plaid to solid pop lin. NOW silk ponchos star for night life. Ponchos and skirt: a new twosome. Denims App.ar The slicker Is getting away from the established vinyl coat fabrics and into denims, seersucker and cotton prints Contrasting Patterns Gain for Sports Wear Clean, crisp, contrasty pat terns are making a strong comeback in men's and youths' sport jackets for the spring-summer season of 1963. This Influence can be seen in the top selling polyester- worsted blends that were for merly dominated by dull mousey fabrics. It is also very apparent in the India Madras Jackets (expected to be very strong In classic snops) wnere bright colors (sharply defined) are getting a big play. Seer suckers, headed for even greater acceptance next sum mer, are in the trend via broader stripes in deeper as well as brighter colors. CollarUis The' cardigan (collarless) sport jacket has been achiev ing a higher standing in mis country for a number of years. It's cool, comfortable and good-looking. It was a huge success in sweaters still Is, as a matter of fact and seems to be gaining in popu larity in jackets and sport coats. (with and without foam back ing). NEW cropped slickers are leveling off two and four inches below the hipline. The costume, In rainwear is growing slowly but stead ily. Devotees of the rainsuit, the raincoat and dress, the poncho and skirt continue to present them with fashion conviction. There will always be the classics with, balmacaans now flipping from solid pop lin to leopard print or in pop lin lined with poplin. Trench coats now look better with single breasted closings. Ches terfields now come in madras type plaids; many of these are for all seasons with Milium linings. Texture is shown in the real and simulated linens and the real or simulated wild silks. Prints are big . . . wild .. . colorful . . .often zany; they come in abstracts, giant paisleys and photographic florals. Spring SHORT ON 9 hud SPECIAL! ONE WEEK ONLYI MYADEC Vitamin t Mintral. 100'. Simple but elegant necklines and sleeves inspire jewelry ideas to complement their lines. Pins lead as a popular jew elry form due to their versa tility. They can be worn on all types of fabric, on most apparel and changed about in every conceivable angle. Flap- pockets on spring suit jackets can be dramatized with single bold clips. A burnished gold pin touched with diamonds lends elegance to snap-on-and- ofi stoles featured on wool suits. Collarless suits demand adornment; a scarf anchored with an impressive pin, or a choker necklace worn in com bination with a pin set at the shoulder level. Coats, also col larless this season, yield to scarf-pin accents for soft flat tery to the face. Fine Knits Sweater suits and fine knits put jewelry on display. V necklines need fill-in focal points such as pins at the base of the neckline. A sentimental gold engraved locket centered with a diamond returns as a favorite for the plunging neck line. Ornate clasps on neck laces add design interest when worn center front. Chanel's Influence contin ues as cardigan suits call for jeweled touches on neck and shoulder lines. The "little boy suit ' with rounded collar as sumes a jeweled freshness when twin pins are placed be low it and not on its edges. Pin Accent Bateau and straight neck lines in blouses and dresses show an imaginative flair when accented with a pin or clip perched on the ridge near the shoulder seam. A woman who wishes to elongate her neckline, however, should rely on a matinee-length necklace. Revived Interest in the lan tern sleeve and baby-puff sleeve emphasizes the wear ing of bracelets. Designs in bracelet should be selected ac cording to the size of tiie wrist and length of arm. A brace let-watch of medium width is a good fashion investment. At the flick of a finger, a center cover flips up to reveal a watch face, some haloed with diamonds or engravings. This is the ultimate in keeping time under cover in a fashion able way. ;vj!r i s it it i 1 i ti i .... -J -1 FASHIONABLE - Skim-tit dresses are fashionable for spring, practical In carefree fabrics.
