The Tornado jayvees were victors by 63-34 on the Hed- rick floor and the sofhs took the Bruins 65 to 38. Medford's jayvees romped away in the final peiiod. The score was tied 10-all at the quarter. The Tornado headed 24 to 16 at the half and 40 to 29 with three quarters gone. Don Kaengla put in 15 points for Medford and Ron Edmonds 12. Ron Boyce had 10 for Ashland. The local sophs had 15 to 8. 38 to 19 and 49 to 27 pe riod advantages. Rick Hass man was high for Medford with 14 markers. Jim Conklin totalled 11 for . the Ashland ers. Medford, hot from both the field and the free toss line, established a bulging lead with a sizzling first period and commanded the third and fourth quarters to record its second victory In four confer ence conflicts. Ashland suf fered its fourth league defeat without a taste of triumph. The Black Tornado, which opened up with a .545 first panel from the field, hit .516 for the game. It fired .800 from the free stripe. Twelve field goals from 22 shots, plus a gift toss gave the Hurricanes a 25 to 7 first quarter margin. The Grizzlies lust never were a threat. They did outscore the Mcdtoras IB to 17 In the second, quarter and they bid. as the second half got underway. But' the Whirlwind surged to a 23 point spread in the late third quarter and won going away in the fourth, . Ford Has 19 Thirty-six points at 75 to 39 was 'the widest span between the teams. Halftime score of the skirmish was 42 to 25. Third quarter count was 56 to 33. Jock Forde tossed in 19 points for Medford. Dan Miles flipped in 13 and Dick Dcfflcy 12. Forde grabbed 11 re bounds and teammate Jim Hill 10. Detflcy and Larry Vowell tor the first time had Tornado starting roles. With Forde, Hill and Miles they formed a well-knit combination. Along with bolstering the Tornado offensive punch, they teamed with Miles in harassing the Grizzlies in their back court and came up with steals that bulwarked the Medford domi nation. During one Ashland dry spell in the concluding period, Mcdlord, carrying the battle, put in 13 points. Doth teams 1 unshed with reserves as Couches Roeliindt and Kcil cleared their benches. While the Medford bulge wus wide, Ashland did not go down without a scrap. Henley,, despite the absence from the lineup of 6-7 Kent Gooding, ran up the score on Sacred Heart 64 to 33. Eagle Point trimmed Phoenix 59 to 55, Lakeview held off St. Mary's 56 to 55 and Illinois Valley downed Rogue River. Mike Beymcr with 21 points. Earl Allbritton with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Charley Thompson with 10 retrieves took up the slack for Henley as Gooding sat out because of a cold. The Hornets led 13 to 7, 25 to 17 and 46 to 29 at the quarters. They shot 45 per cent from the field and out-rebounded the Trojans 40 to 23. Marv Davis scored 17 for Sacred Heart. Rebounding led by 6-4 Den nis Warren helped Lakeview to its verdict over St. Mary's The Medford school lagged by just three points after three stanzas but couldn't catch the Honkers in the stretch. Lake view had 13 to 8, 33 to 24 and 42 to 39 period bulges. War ren scored 21 points and Larry Samples 15 for the Honkers. For the Crusaders Jim Calhoun contributed 18. Eagle Point took the lead on Phoenix at 37 to 36 on Frank Charley's free tosses with 2:16 left in the third quarter and stayed in front by wavering margins. The Eagles headed 45 to 40 going into the last quarter but saw eight point differences nar row down to three points at 54 to 51 and 58 to 55. Charles Pomcroy with 27 markers and 17 retrieves was the big gun of the Eagles. Richard Short cleared 21 rei bounds at EP paced on the boards 54 to 31. Duane Whaley bulwarked the league's defending titlists with good defense and ball handling. John Barker had 16 points for Phoenix and Mike Consbruck nine rebounds. Eagle Point shot .400 from the field on 22 of 55 to .339 by Phoenix on ,19 of 56, In a game in which 46 fouls were called, Phoenix lost four starters, Dave Johnson, Jon Granby, Barker and Cons bruck, on Infractions. Eagle Point was on top 15 to 10 at the quarter and 30 to 22 at the half. The Eagles broke an 8 to 6 Phoenix lead with nine straight points as Pomcroy swished four buck ets. In the second quarter the Eagles up to 20 to 10 but the Pirates came back to 110 the count at 20-all with the help of Barker's three goals. After Whalcy's field bucket was matched by Rick Bolz's gift crs. the Eagles pulled In front on Pomcroy's seven points. Phoenix went Into the lead 34 to 32 in the third quarter as Barker, Consbruck, John son and Bolz combined. Pom croy's free heave and Short's basket made It 35 to 34 for EP. Johnson's jumper put Phoenix ahead once more at 36 to 35. In the final seconds of the third quarter Consbruck hit a 30-foot Jumper and EP's Jack Straus came buck with a 50 foot cast that zoomed through the hoop. IV had 11 to 6, 27 to 17 and 46 lo 33 quarter spreads oh Rogue River, otitshot the Chiefs .385 to .236 from the field and beat them In re bounds 42 to 29.
