Appelgate, Bigham drive, Central folnt, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Kathallee Anne Appelgate, to Michael Dean Nolta. Mr. Nolta is the son of Mrs. Harold Slates, Central Point, and Vance Nolta. Willows, Calif. Miss Appelgate is attending Crater High school as a senior Mr. Nolta, with the weather service of the United States Navy in Japan, is a 1061 graduate of Crater High school. Jennifer Wilson, Gerald Bertelsen Set Wedding Day News of an approaching marriage of interest in Med ford was announced recently In San Marino, Calif. The bride-elect is Miss Jen nifer Ann Wilson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs, John Boyd Wilson, of that city. Her fi ance is. Gerald Allan Bertel sen, Atascadcro, Calif., son of Mrs. Leon Close of Ander son, Calif., and Bert Bertel sen, San Francisco. Miss Wilson Is a graduate of San Marino High school and is a student at the Uni versity of Oregon where she Is a sophomore. She is a mem ber of Pi Beta Phi sorority. The brldegroom-clcct at tended Medford High school as Gerald Close. He was state broad jump champion for two years while a student at Med ford High school, receiving a track scholarship from Wil liam Bowerman to the Uni versity of Oregon where lie was affiliated with Delta Upsi lon social fraternity. He is now a recreational therapist at the California state hospital at Atascadcro. The wedding is planned for January 26 at the Christ Chapel of Snn Marino Com munity church. Engagements Announced Ashland Three engage ments of interest In Ashland have been announced In re cent weeks. The engagement of Judy Ann Higgins to Richard E, Larsen was announced recent ly by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Higgins, 41 Gran ite street. Miss Higgins has been em ployed at the Reef hotel in Hawaii and Mr. Larsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Larsen, Spokane, Wash., has been sta tioned on Oahu with the Unit ed States Navy Air corps. Miss Higgins returned to Ash land In November. No date has been set for the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Picter Raap horst of Garden Grove, Calif., announced the engagement of their daughter, Mia Christina, to Lt. Philip T. Spieth, son of Chancellor and Mrs. Herman R. Spieth, University of Cali fornia at Riverside, at a holi day party. The Raaphorst family came to Ashland from Holland sev eral years ago and Miss Raap horst was graduated from high school and attended Southern Oregon college before moving to California where she at tended Long Beach State col lege. Lieutenant Spieth was graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, last June and afterward was com missioned by the U. S. Marine Corps, Quantlco, Va. A June wedding is planned. A holiday announcement made last week by Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Greenwade, 326 North Main street, was the en gagement of their daughter, Sharon Kate, to Donald Free man, son of Mrs. M. J. Mauls- by, 325 Scenic drive, and Fred Freeman, Gold Hill. Miss Greenwade is a senior at Ashland High school. Her fiance is a sophomore in busi ness administration at South ern Oregon college. No date has been set for the wedding. Betrothal News Is Made Known Announcement has been made of the engagement of Miss Janice Darragh, Burlin- game, Calif., to Gregory Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Moore, 1449 Jasper street, Medford. The bride elect's parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Darragh of Burllngame. Miss Darragh Is a graduate of Notre Dame High school and the University of Port land. Mr. Moore will gradu ate In June from the Univer sity of Portland where he is majoring in business. He is affiliated with Iota Kappa Pi fraternity. The wedding Is planned for June at St. Catherine's church In Burllngame. Gold Hill Pair To Be Honored Gold Hill - Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Dickinson will be hon ored at an open house Sunday, January 20. All friends are in vited to call between two and five o'clock on that date at their home on Sardine creek road, near Gold Hill. The event will celebrate the Dickinson's 50th wedding an niversary which will occur January 15. Relatives from out of state are expected to attend the open house. College Pair Plans To Wed Ashland - The engagement of Miss Susan Frances Thomp son to David Gary Deatherage has been announced by the bride-elect's mother, Mrs. Jeanette W. Thompson. Mr. Deatherage is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd K. Death erage, Oxnard, Calif., and they were hosts for a holiday party honoring the couple. Miss Thompson was gradu ated from Ashland High school last June and now is a student at Southern Oregon college, majoring in elemen tary teacher education. Her fiance has previously attended the same college and now is a student of economics at the University of Oregon. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. The couple plans a June wedding. Mils Susan Thompson February Rites Planned By Pair The engagement and forth coming wedding of Miss Diane Marie Rupert and Max well D. Gillispie has been an nounced by the bride-elect's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rupert, 130 Portland avenue. The bridegroom-elect is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar B. Gillispie, 2731 Griffin Creek road. Miss Rupert is a student at Medford High school and her fiance is a graduate from there. He is employed at Lew's Poultry ranch. The couple plan a February wedding. Ehrhearts Return From Trip East Shady Cove -Trail - Many local residents have recently entertained out-of-town guests or have taken trips to visit friends and relatives. One of the most, extensive trips was taken by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ehrheart and son, Floyd, Jr., Shady Cove, who went to their former home in Pennsylvania to visit rela tives and friends. En route home they were in Los An geles as guests of another son and family. They were gone a month. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Rodg crs, Trail, went to Salem where they visited with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sleeves. Another son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stecvcs, Hood River, were also at Salem making the event in the nature of a family reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Field, El Monte, Calif., were here to visit Mr. and Mrs. George Field, Trail. Douglas Vincent, Salem, was a house guest for several days at the home of his uncle and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Vincent, Shady Cove. Some 50 registered nurses, however, met in the Mark Antony hotel Caesar room for a buffet dinner. Miss Jane Anders presided during the evening's business session and awards presenta tion before turning over the presidential gavel to her suc cessor, Mrs. Joan Bass. In a talk based upon recent action and purposes of the American Nurses association, the retir ing president urged a greater sense of personal responsibil ity for high standards in the nursing profession and a con tinued improvement in the quality of nursing care. At the conclusion of her remarks she was presented with an en graved piece of silver in rec ognition of her service during the past year. Slim, Trim Class Open For Women Mrs. Lanell Wilkes, wom en's program director for the Medford YMCA, announced today that the ladies "Slim and Trim" program will be open to the public one day, Monday, January 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon, without charge. Women of the area are invited to bring their gym clothing, sneakers and swim suits and participate in this regular Y program on this date. They will hav e choice of calisthenics, work on the exer cise machines, volleyball, bad minton, paddle-ball or swim ming. Qualified instructors will be available to assist. An experienced baby sitter will be available during the pro gram for a nominal fee so mothers may bring their pre school children with them. A special feature of this session will be a life-saving demonstration in the pool. Mrs. Wilkes will demonstrate the mouth to mouth method of artificial respiration and very simple life saving and assist techniques which any one can perform. Life jackets for children will also be dis cussed and demonstrated. Mrs. Wilkes urges mothers to bring their tots into the pool with their jackets for this demonstration as time will be allowed for practice. Mrs. Alice Robbins, whose training was in Eastern Maine school of nursing and who was a pioneer in Oregon nursing, marks her golden anniversary in the profession, but declares she "is not yet ready for re tirement." Miss Martha Han ley, a Medford native, is an other of the distinguished members honored at the din ner as were Mrs. May John son, Mrs. Myrtle Marsters, Miss Mabel Coffeen and Mrs. Edwin R. Durno.
