Among those attending were James Ragland, president of Rogue Valley Art association, and Mrs. John Pletsch, president of the society. The artists' group, organized in 1951 with less than a dozen members, now has more than 100 members, mostly active artists who paint for pleasure. However, such well-known professional artists as Hal Bishop, Eugene Bennett, Robert Bosworth, Medford, and David Hagerbaumer, Ashland, belong to the group. K'ft ' V V fell W$ i?l r?-- Iw...'-, ..1: This painting of 1 farmhouse in the Applegate will be of particular interest to many who see the current show at Roque gallery because it is the work of Robert Bosworth. Mr. Bosworth has produced mostly poetic impression istic watercolors in recent years and the realistic wok of the farmhouse was painted as a present for his father, Harlan P. Bosworth. The Bosworths live in the house, almost 100 years old; it was built by Carroll Matney and he and hit wife, members of early-day Jackson founty families, reared 16 children in the home. 1 ' 1 Hi" in . ' OX . - - 1 Mrs. M. M. Huggins, Coal Mine road, is a. typical member of the Artists' group. A homemaker with considerable spare time and an interest in color and design, Frances Huggins paints in oils as a recreation and hobby. She uses a second floor room as a studio. One of her paintings is exhibited with the juried show now hung in Rogue gallery, 220 West Main street. Anyone interested is in vited to view the show. MEDF0R& Tribune MEDFORD, OREGON, SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 1963 Two Groups Support Art Needs of Valley Members of the two organizations of this area devoted to promoting art have joined forces this month on a project. Members of Southern Oregon Society of Artists have their first exhibit at Rogue gallery, which is oper ated by Rogue Valley Art association. Members of the society are all artists; admission to the group is based on such work as paintings, sculpture or drawings. Con trasted to this, members of the association may b artists (many belong to both groups) but are mainly persons who wish to see artistic effort encouraged and who support the gallery because they believe it to be an essential part of the cultural life of the area. Because Rogue Valley Art association needs to increase the membership to five or six timet Hi present size, 1 group of woman hat formed e telephone committee to work on lists of prospective members.
