FRIDAY, Presbylerians Announce Music Sermon Subjects Dr. D. Kirkland West will oreach a sermon at First Presbyterian church Sunday In preparation for the New Year, entitled, "wmcn way Are You Facing?" Music will be presented by lhc choirs and Miss Mira Frohnmayer, who is omplet ine her studies toward a mas ter's degree In music at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston will sing at both the 8:30 and the 1 a.m. services. Watch Night Event Set For Monday At Apostolic Faith A watch night service will be held Monday night at Apostolic Faith church. A regular evangelistic serv ice will open at 7:50 p.m with a prelude by members of the 36-piece orchestra and large mixed chorus. Personal testimonies will be a part of the service, fol lowed by a gospel message The service will continue with other activities, inclu ding the showing of a Moody Institute science film, "Pryor Claim," until the hour of mid night when prayers will be offered. Sunday services at the church will open with an ad dress by the Rev. Loyce C, Carver, pastor. Fifty-three Sunday school teachers will be on hand at 9:30 a.m. to hold classes for adults, juniors, primaries, and beginners. Music by the or chestra and mixed chorus, under the direction of Wil liam E. Walden, will be a feature of both the 11 a.m. devotional service and the evangelistic meeting at 7:50 p.m. Sunday. Many have viewed the Christmas scene of life-size figures on the north lawn of the church at Third St. and Central ave. It will be dis played until after the first of the year. Churches Note oming Activities Central Point - The sacra ment of the Lord s supper will be observed Sunday dur ing the 11 a.m. worship ser vice at the First Presbyterian church In Central Point. The Rev. Robert W. Olmsted will deliver the communion medi tation. Following the worship service a coffee horn1 vill be held in the church fellow ship hall. The junior and senior High fellowships will not meet unday evening. Jacksonville - Saturday at 30 p.m. the church night fellowship of the First Pres byterian church will hold its monthly meeting. The e -nlng will begin with a potluck din ner and be followed by carol singing, other music and a gill exchange. Men are to take gifts labeled for a man, women gifts labeled for a woman. Congregationalists List Coming Events The New Year's Sunday service of the Congregational church will be held at 11 a in. at the Hoover Grade school, where the church is worship ing and carrying on its church school temporarily while mak ing plans for a new church. The Rev. Robert W. Toll, minister of the church, will preach a sermon entitled "To Live from Beginning to Be ginning." During the worship hour, the church school will meet with classes for all children through sixth grade. Child care will be provided for those younger than three years old. Wednesday, the Laymen's Fellowship will meet for breakfast at 6:30 a m. at the Town House cafe. PLANS TO RESIGN Salem 'IN' Emory I.ebold said Wednesday he planned to resign aa constable of the Marlon County District Court. Gold Hill Concord Gold HUI - A small sign outside of a modest Lrick res idence in Gold Hill Is the only difference between it and other homes in the area. The brick structure, the home of the Concord Spiritualist chap el, is located at 560 Second ave. Minister of the chapel is the Rev. Elvina Colburn, who remodeled the residence so that the front room wi'l seat about 40 persons. The chapel is a member of the National S p 1 r 1 tualist Association of Churches with headquarters In Milwaukee, Wis. The in terior is painted in shades of blue and blege. Mrs. Colburn said a rare phase of mediumship was re vealed to her about 12 years ago. It is the sculpturing in clay of faces or heads of those who have died - people she had never seen or known, Some were made while she was in trance and some under control, she stated Mrs. Colburn emphasized that she has no idea who these faces or heads are. She stressed that these clay mod els are never sold. She ex plained that: she has letters from people who believe they recognized the models as peo ple who have died. Mrs. Colburn said they are Harrah and War Horse, both guides of her late husband, John Colburn, . and White Feather, her own guide. She explained that Harrah and White Feather were iden titled by materialization through: the mediuirnhip of Fanchon Harlow Dorsh at the Chesterfield, Ind., Spiritualist camp. War Horse made him self known through th- me diumship of the Rev. William Holten, West Covina, Calif., when he held a seance about one year ago at her home in Gold Hill prior to her hus band's death. Mrs. Colburn said there was no beginning for her, she was born with the knowl edge of spiritualism and be gan study at the early age of five years. Her first teacher was her grandmother. Mrs. Colburn Is a graduate of Mor ris Pratt Institute, While Wa ter, Wis., and has passed the examinations for mediumship, licentiate and ordination with the national board. Mrs. Colburn named the new chapel for one she pas tored In San Diego, Calif. Following Colburn's retire ment, they traveled through out the united States, prior to making their home in Gold Hill. Mrs. Colburn writes arti cles for Chimes, a psychic monthly publication in Brea, Calif.; the National Spiritual ist, the official church publi cation, and other publica tions. Family Potluck Is Set at St. Luke's As a part of the Methodist observance of Student Recog nition day, St. Luke's church will have a family potluck dinner at the church immed iately following the morning service Sunday. The potluck is a joint effort of the Woman's Society of Christian Service and the Commission on Missions and social concerns. Co-chairmen for the event arc Mrs. Charles Henry and Mrs. Clarence Byrd. The main course of the dinner Is being planned. Mem bers are to take salads and desserts in addition to their dinner service. Masses Scheduled For Next Week Masses In Sacred Heart church on Jan. 1, the Feast of the Circumcision and a holy day of obligation for Roman Catholics, will be at 6, 7, 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. and at 7 p.m., the same schedule as is followed on all Sundays of the year. At 7:30 p.m. New Year's Eve a holy hour service will be held in the church to mark the ending of the old year and the beginning of the new. Friday, Jan. 4, masses will be at 6:30 and 8 a.m. and at 6 p.m., with special masses for the grade school children at 10:40 and 11:30 a.m. Satur day, Fatinia devotions will be said following the 8 a.m. mass and at 11 a.m. mass will be celebrated for the Saturday catechism students. Witness Subjects Are Announced The subject of the decline in moral standards will be dis cussed Sunday at 4 p.m. in a public discourse entitled "What Is Happening To Mor als?" at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. The speaker will be W, D. llolmau, representative of the W'atchtowcr Society. A study in tlie Watchtower magazine will follow, entitled "Subjec tion To Superior Authorities -Why?" SB CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council During the open house those visiting the church will be able to inspect the various vestments and sacred vessels used during Catholic religious ceremonies. Greeters will be on hand to give explanations of the confessionals, stations of the cross, baptismal font, sacristy, altars, statues and other parts of the church and to answer the questions of the guests. After completing a tour of the church all visitors are invited to have tea at the parish house "ext door to the church where Father Mai will be their host, assisted by Mrs. Arthur Becker and Mrs. Charles J. Moore. It is Father Mai's desire that the open house will give many their first opportunity to inspect a Catholic church and to have their questions about it answered. He has asked Catholic parishioners to extend personal invitations to their non-Cetholic friends, neighbors and relatives to at tend the open house and to accompany them, if they wish, while visiting the church. Unity Subject Is Noted for Sunday The Rev. Fred O. Sapp Jr., pastor of the First Advent Christian church. At 11:30 a.m. the children will go to their junior church chapel for a lesson on the mission aries in India and some slides of the work there. This Is the last Sunday for the Sunday School contest. More dis cussion on the problems of the Sunday school and church will follow. Assistant Pastor To Preach Sunday The Rev. Wendell Wagler, assistant pastor, will preach at the First Christian church Sunday morning on the sub ject "How Wrong Can a Wise Man Be?" At the first service the youth choir will sing "Tell Me the Stories of Jesus." The chancel choir will sin "Great God, We Sing" at the 10:55 a.m. service. Mrs. Marion Kus ler and Mrs. Mabyl Buchan an will act as hostesses at the coffee hour following the sec ond service. The Chi Rho Fellowship will meet at 6 p.m. and make final plans for their planning retreat and New Year's party to be held Monday at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship hall. At that time the program for the next six months will be set up to be followed by a dinner and watch party. , The Middlers Fellowship will meet at 6 p.m. Mary Ban nister is in charge of the pro gram. They will have a six months planning meeting on Monday evening at the Ken neth Pickens home, 24 Hamil ton ave., followed by a New Year's party. Institute Film to Be Shown Monday Butte Falls - "Dust to Destiny," a Moody Bible in stitute film, will be one of the features of the Watch night service on New Y'ear's eve starting at 8 p.m. in the Butte Falls Community Bible church. This will be a joint service with the Assembly of God church. There will also be a time of singing and refreshments. The Rev. Robert Daniels has invited everyone in the area to attend. Sunday morning there will be a solo by Louis Crammer accompanied by Mrs. Leth Meadows at the piano. St. Peter's Topics Noted for Sunday "The Significance of the Name Jesus" is the sermon chosen by the Rev. John E. Simon, pasior of St. Peter's Lutheran church, 1020 East Main st. St. Peter's morning services are at 8:15 and 11 a.m. St. Peter's congregation w ill will begin the New Year with a service at 10 a.m. on Jan. 1. Wolfe, Sa lem, will rpeak Sunday in both the 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. services of the First Church of the Nazarene, 520 North Holly st. He will fill the pul pit in the absence of the pas tor, the Rev.Harold M. San ner, who is on vacation. Mr. Wolfe has been a full time evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene since 1951 and has preached in churches throughout the nati n. Prior to this he served 20 consecu tive years as a pastor. Music for the 11 a.m. ser vice, as announced by Perry Christiansen, minister of mu sic and education, will be the sanctuary choir singing "Let All The People Praise Thee" and a tenor solo by tob Han sen, ine evening services music will include a vocal number by Cherie, Gina, and Lori Newman, a ?olo by Mrs. Gene Mapes, and organ prel ude music by Leah Weaver. Recently Mr. Sanner re viewed the status of the de nomination as given in the annual statistical report by Dr. S. T. Ludwig, Kansas City, Mo., general church secretary. The Nazarenes now work in 4J countries. Churches have been built in Nazareth, Israel, the first Protestant church to be built in that country since the nation was established in 1948, and one In Brasilia, the new inland capital of Brazil. Per capita giving for the denomination was $147.78 and a net gain of 2.49 per cent in membership was reported.
