8 FRIDAY, Yreka Churches Set Christmas Yreka - A number of Christmas programs and can dlelight services are planned by churches in the Yreka area during the coming week A Christmas eve candle' light service entitled "Christ mas Joy" will be held by the Yreka Methodist church, cor ner of Lane and Oregon sts. The traditional Christmas program will be presented by the children of the church Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Satur day. Dec. 22, the Junior High Methodist Youth fellowship will go caroling, and will re turn to the home of the Rev and Mrs. Don Donahue, pas tor of the church, for fellow ship at 9 p.m. The Christmas program of the First Baptist church, cor ner of Yama and Oregon sts will be held tonight at 7 o'clock. A candlelight service will be held Dec. 24 at 7 p.m Pastor of the church is the Rev. Max Aiken. Assembly of God The title of the children's portion of the Assembly of God church Christmas pro gram will be "Life in Christ. ' The adult portion will con cern "The Answer to World Peace." The church, with the 'Rev. Harold Donaldson as pastor, is located on South Oregon at. " Berean Fundamental church of Yreka, which meets in the Odd Fellows hall, ill pre sent a children's Christmas ' program Sunday, entitled "The B e 1 1 s of Christmas." A youth caroling party will be held at the home of the Rev. Eldon Sandin, pastor, on Christmas eve. Butte Falls Events Are Announced Butte Falls - A traditional Christmas program of songs and recitations will feature the Sunday school hour at the Butte Falls Community Bible church. Boys and girls of classes through the sixth grade will participate. Music will be included in the morning worship service and the Rev. Robert Daniels will give the Christmas mes sage. "The Greatest Gift," an original play by Mrs. Leonard De Wei, who visited here from Palm Springs, Calif., during the past summer, will be given by the young people at the 7 p.m. service. Tonight at B o'clock in the Assembly of Gnd church will be the time of the cantata, "Born a King," sung by a 30 voice choir from the Ashland "Assembly of God church. The Christmas Eucharist will be a candlelight service, and will begin at 11:30 p.m. Christmas eve. It wil' be over at 12:30 a.m. Christmas morn ing. A crowd attended the three part Christmas program pres ented at the Seventh-day Ad ventist church, Yreka, on Dec. 16. Included in the pro gram were musical numbers, a skit of the birth of Christ, and a social hour. Community Bible In Central Point Schedule Events Central Point - Several ac tivities have been planned Sunday at the Community Bibler church, Fourth and Al der sts., Central Point. The Rev. Paul O. Kroon, minister, will speak at the 11 a.m. worship on "The Gift That Many Refused." Youth groups will go caroling in the afternoon and the Christmas program will be given by the Sunday school at 7:30 p.m. The evening program will include a young people's or chestra playing a prelude of Christmas music, "Christmas Tide" and greetings by the Sunday School superintend ent, Lawrence Leonard The youth group will sing "Glory to God In the HiRhest" and His . Name Is Wonderful." They will read Scripture por tions. The Christmas story and Three Mothers and Four Fathers," two films, will be shown. Pre-school children will sing "Away in a Manger" and Christmas Worship. The primary age group will sing "Dear Little Stranger," O Come Little Children," and "Trim the Christmas Tree," which includes speak ing parts. Fourteen junior girls will tell the Christmas story, illustrating It with flan- nelgraph. The junior choir will sing We ve a Story to Tell to the Nations" and "Thou Dids'l Leave Thy Throne." A playlet, "Many Sons Unto Glory" will be given by the college career group. The benediction will be by the pastor. Candlelight Service Set by St. Luke's St. Luke's Methodist church will celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Jesus In a can dlelight service at the church Dec. 24 at 10.55 p.m. Mrs. Lawrence Horlon will sing: "What Child Is This?" and the Rev. The youth choir, directed by the Rev. David Brown, and the junior high choir with Mrs. Victor Birdseye will sing together with the quartet. Miss Dru An Graff has charge of the bell choir. The meditation will be brought by Richard Lichtl. Decorations for the pro gram will be arranged by Mrs. Oscar Heycrman and Mrs. B. Brandt Barlels. After the Vesper service Senior High Fellowship will meet to go caroling. Geneva Fellowship and Koinonia will meet in the Fireplace room at 7:30 p.m. to go caroling to gether. Thursday at 12:30 p.m. the annual College-Age luncheon will be held in the Fellowship hall. Pastor Assumes Duties in O'Brien O'Brien The Rev. and Mrs. Don Knight have arrived here where he has assumed duties as pastor of the re cently organized First Baptist church. Mr. and Mrs. Knight and their children, Donna and Kim, arrived from Abilene, Texas. His sermon Sunday will be entitled, "No Room In the Inn." The Sunday school classes are preparing a Christ mas program to be given dur ing the Sunday school hour. Treats will be distributed. Members from churches of the area portray the characters and provide the choir music. Sat 1957 Award of Merit Winner pit m St. Mark's Church Plans Celebration of Eucharist The annual midnight Eucharist at St. Mark's Episcopal church will be celebrated Christmas eve staring at 11 p.m. with the senior choir, directed by John E. Drysdale. Mrs. Ernest C. Conrad will accompany it on the organ. In addition to the Yuletide hymns and carols, the order of service will include Gounod's setting to the "Holy Com munion" and "O Holy Child" by Halter for the introit. The offertory anthem will be "The by Gaul; with Mrs. W. H. Fischer as soloist. The Rev. George R. V. Bolster, rector of St. Mark's, will be the preacher and celebrant, V. A. Browne, and the Rev. Grace Hamilton To Speak Sunday on Peace Corps Miss Grace Hamilton of the Peace Corps, who is home prior to leaving for her duties in Nigeria, will speak Sun day at 11 a.m. at the Rogue Valley Unitarian Fellowship. CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council March Of The Wise Men" assisted by the Rev. David Eric O. Robathan. will be held at 10 a.m. on Mr. and Mrs. Arthur M. Ham ilton, 144 Fourth St., Ashland, left Sept. 27 for three months of Peace Corps training at Columbia university in New York and her assignment with the Nigeria VI project. She will teach at the sec ondary level - biology, zoo logy and health sciences. Miss Hamilton will be in Nigeria for two years. She will join the first group of Peace Corps teachers which were sent last year. They also work improv ing the general health of the population through dispen sary duty. During orientation at Co lumbia, personnel received language instruction and spec ific clothing recommenda tions. Miss Hamilton was gradu ated from Ashland High school in H155, attended Southern Oregon college for two years and received her bachelor and masters degrees at Oregon State university in the field of general science. Following her visit here Miss Hamilton will return to New York City where the group will leave on Jan. 3 for Dakar and then .to Lagos, the capitol of Nigeria. Giving Stressed By Church During Christmas Season "The Message of Christmas" will be the theme for the ser mon Sunday morning at First Southern Baptist church by the Rev. G. O. Skaar, pastor. The adult choir will sing. At 6:30 p.m. in place of the usual service there will be a choral presentation by the adult and youth choirs under the direction of Dennis Sam ples assisted by Mrs. Samples pianist and Mrs. James Hobbs, organist. The program will open with the reading of the gospel story of the Nativity inter spersed with carols by the choirs. Soloists will be Mrs. Skaar and Mrs. Charles Gil christ, Mrs. Gilchrist and Miss Jeanne Hobbs will sing a duet. There will be no Christmas tree this year but it will be replaced by a Nativity scene. Christmas Service Mr, Carver will give the message at the Christmas day service at 8 p.m. Mrs, Clifford Iverson at the organ and Miss Wanda Day at the harp will play Luther's "Cradle Hymn" and "Jesus is the Sweetest Name I Know," as a prelude to the service, followed by the orchestra playing "Around the Christmas Tree," the wo men's chorus singing "Go Tell It On the Mountain," and the 60-voice mixed chorus singing the spiritual "A-men" and Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus." Installation Set At Zion Lutheran The Rev. Harvey C. Coovert's sermon for the last Sunday in Advent at Zion Lutheran church will be "How Much Do We Want Jesus?" The senior choir will sing the anthem "O Rejoice Ye Christians Loudly". The order of installation for all teachers, officers and departmental staff of the Sunday school will be conducted during the morning worship service. Sunday at 4 p.m. "The Loom of Christmas" will be presented by the children of the Sunday school. Music for the program will be provided by the various departments of the Sunday school, the Senior Luther League Girls' en semble and the junior choir. Christian Science Lesson Topic Told The significance of the birth and life of Christ Jesus will be emphasized Sunday at services at First Church of Christ. Scientist, 100 Windsor ave., at II a m. Scriptural readings will in clude the account in Matthew of wise men who followed a star to Bethlehem. The lesson-sermon is entitled "Is the V'niverse , Including Man , Evolved by Atomic Force?" Persons up to the aiie ot 20 are invited to attend Sunday school. All are welcome to the services. Christ, Scientist Locations Set for Christmas Masses In Catholic Parish Midnight mass will be cele brated in four locations this Christmas eve by the priests of Sacred Heart parish, ac cording to the church's holi day schedule. In Medford, a high mass will be sung in Sacred Heart church by the Very Rev. Carl Mai with music being fur nished by the adult choir of the parish. The Rev. Gilbert Lulay will be celebrant of a second high mass at mid night in the all-purpose room of St. Mary's High school on Black Oak dr. Singing at this mass will be the high school's Marian choir. Other midnight masses will be said in St. Joseph's church in Jacksonville by the Rev. William McLeod and in Our Lady of Fatima church at Shady Cove by the Rev. John Hg. Christmas Day Masses Other masses on Christmas day will be at 6, 7, 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart church. The regular 9 a.m. mass will be said in Jacksonville church, but there will be no 10 a.m. mass in Shady Cove. No evening Unity to Hold Candlelighting Service Sunday The annual Christmas can dlelighting service will be held Sunday at the Unity Church of Medford, Holly and Haven sts. There will be a 9:45 a.m. service with the Sunday scho, ' group partici pating and the Junior carol ers. At the 11:15 a.m. service, the Unity carolers, under the direction of Mrs. Thomas Lowe, will sing "Hark the Sound of Holy Voices" and "Christmas Praise." Mrs. Richard A. Schuchard will sing "Jesu Bambino," and Miss Sandra Myers will be at the organ. The Unity carolers will sing "O Come All Ye Faith ful" in the processional and "Joy to the World" in the re cessional. The Rev. Katharine Bos worth will speak on "The Re ality of the Vision." The text is taken from John 1:4. This is the fourth of a series of the Messianic unfoldment. Carol Sing Planned At Trinity Baptist Sunday at 7:30 p.m. an old fashioned "Christmas Carol Sing" will be held at Trinity Baptist church. Assisting at the various services in addition to the high school and adult choirs will be the men of the parish, as ushers, readers and servers; ' alter boys from St. Mary's grade and high schools; and the parochial grade school choirs. Confessions will be heard in Sacred Heart church on Monday before Christmas from 1 to 5:30 and from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Father Mai has sug gested it will be helpful to all concerned if as many as possible will go to confession during the regular hours of 4-5:30 and 7:30-9 p.m. on Saturday. Other Changes Noted Several other changes have been made in the parish calen dar because of the holiday season. Both the adult educa tion and the inquiry clas ses are in recess for two weeks. On Monday, Jan. 7, the Inquiry class will recon vene at the usual hour of 8 p.m. in St. Mary's grade school. The adult education sessions will begin again at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Catechism classes for publia school students will be held according to schedule this week end, grade school classes at 10 a.m. on Saturday and high school classes on Sun day at 5:45 p.m. Both will be recessed on Dec. 29 and 30. Young Christian Workers will meet on Wednesday eve ning of Christmas week but will hold no meeting the fol lowing week. 3-Way Message Slated For Sunday The services of Central Church of Christ, 1440 South Oakdale ave., will stress the Christmas message in three different ways Sunday. The 7:30 p.m. service will be a dramatic presentation en titled "Our Salvation Has Come." Colored slide pictures have been taken in natural settings using children and adults of Central Church as the characters. These will be shown with narrative and music background. Music will be provided by a girls choir and individual numbers. The younger children of the Bible school will tell the Christmas story in songs, poems and recitations at the opening assembly at 9:45 a.m. Following the assembly there will be classes for all ages. "What Is Christmas Made Of?" will be the topic of the sermon at the 11 a.m. worship hour. John V. Heberling, min ister of the church, will speak.
