FRIDAY, Presbyterian's Music, Sermons Tell of Season Sunday at the First Presby terian church Dr. D. Kirkland West will preach on the sub ject, "Why God Gave." The quartet will sing "How Far Is It to Bethlehem" and at the early service the youth choir will present an Appa lachian carol, "Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head." At the 11 a.m. service the chancel choir will sing, "A Christmas Sym bol" by Christiansen. At 7 p.m. Sunday Senior High Fellowship will meet in the Fireplace room or a pro gram, "What is a Christian Christmas?" to be presented by the Faith commission, chairman, Jim Marris. Junior High Fellowship meets each Tuesday alter school at the church for church school, dinner and fel lowship. On Dec. 23 Geneva Fellow ship and Koinonia are plan ning to go Christmas caroling. They will meet at the church at 7:30 p.m. Presbyterian Men will hold their regular luncheon Thurs day at noon in the Fellow ship hall. All men are wel come to attend these inspira tional meetings. Westminster The sacrament of baptism for infants will be admin istered at the 11 a m. worship service of the Westminster Presbyterian church Sunday. During the service the church choir will sing the Bn them "Sing We Noel" and the Rev. John O. Reynolds will speak on the subject "The Good News of Christmas". Donald Whalin will serve as layassistant. Children from 3 to 10 years of age are invited to attend Children's church which meets with the adults for the lirst part of the service. Nurs ery care Is available for pre. school children. The church school Christ mas program will be held Fri day, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The children are preparing for this program at the regular 0:45 a.m. Church school classes. The adult class, led by the pastor, meets at the same hour and will conclude this quar ter's study with a lesson en titled "The Church's Sclf-un-dci'standine". The Senior High Fellowship will meet at 7 p.m. at the church to be led in a study and discussion by the pastor on the subject "The Impor tance of Personal Devotion." The Mariners club for mar ried couples will meet Satur day, Dec. 15, at the church at 7:30 p.m. to go Christmas caroling. DLCLMBLH 14, 1962 Church of Brethren Sunday Topic Told Sunday at the morning wor ship service at the Church of the Brethren, 345 Mary St., the pastor, the Rev. William Wash, will have for his topic, "John a Man With a Mission." The scripture background for the sermon will be Matthew 11:2-10. The choir will sing "To Us a Child Is Born." Three Churches Announce Events Central Point "Under standing the Bible" will be the title of the sermon to be preached Sunday by the Rev Robert W. Olmsted during the 11 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterian church in Central Point. Following the service a coffee hour will be held in the church fellowship hall. Nursery care is provided during the 11 a.m. worship service. Junior and Senior High Fellowship will meet Sunday at the church at 6 p.m. The elders will meet in ses sion Monday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Fredrick Ross Evans will preach at both services at First Christian church Sunday morning. At the first service the youth choir will sing "Good Christian Men Rejoice." Mrs. Ralph Matlack will sing "The Birthday of a King" and the Chancel choir will sing "Ring, Christmas Bells" at the 10:55 a.m. service. MtDFOHD 1957 Award of Merit Winner OLD CHUHCH-AU that remained of the former building of the First Presbyterian church in Ashland this week was the old bell tower, which is shown lying on its side. The church was a landmark in Ashland for a number of years. The property was sold to make way for a new motel. Jehovah's Witnesses Topics Announced James Morse, Ashland, will speak at a public talk Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Kingdom hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Jack sonville highway. His topic will be "Can There Be a World Without Woe?" The Walchtowcr subject at 5:15 p.m. will be "Subjection to the Superior Authorities." Tuesday at 8 p.m. incidents in the life of the first Chris tians will be studied. Apostolic Faith Program Planned "Jesus the Light of the World" will be the theme of the Christmas story to be pre sented by the children of the Apostolic Faith church on Fri day, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature five scenes with musical back ground by choruses, quartets, and soloists in costume, in cluding "God's Promise lo Mary," with Pamela Dubs as Mary, and a quartet of girls In angel costumes playing harps. In the second scene, "Bethlehem Road," Danny Walden will represent Joseph, and Rebecca and Mary Beth Parker will sing, "Little Grey Donkey." Karen Fricsen will direct the toy band by Ihe be ginner and primary depart ments. The scene, "The Heav enly Host," will depict shep herds on the hillside and an angelic orchestra conducted by Jackie Barnes. Miss Linda Carver will be piano accompanist. The pro gram Is planned and directed by Mrs. William Wilhrow and Mrs. Coy Bailey. ' There will be a treat for each child. There will be the usual Christmas display on the north lawn of the church at Third st. and Central avc. The Colorado blue spruce that was planted last year will be deco rated, and there will be life size figures of Mary and Jos eph and the Christ Child, as well as the three Wise Men, angels suspended overhead, and the Star shining over all. Congregational Activities Noted For Coming Week Sunday the Rev. Robert W. Tull, minister of the Congre gational church, will continue his Advent series of sermons dealing with the meaning and the message of the persons in volved in the birth of Jesus. This week's sermon at 11 a.m. Sunday is entitled "The Shepherds 'Glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen'." The church is meeting at Hoover Grade school on Sis kiyou blvd. at South Modoc rd. Sunday's service will in clude the lighting of the third Advent candle and the sing ing of the anthem "Today There Is Ringing" by the choir. Church school classes will meet during the worship hour. Children younger than three years of age will be cared for in the school health room. The three, four and five year olds will meet in the bandroom. 'Sense of Wonder' Is Sermon Topic "A Sense of Wonder" will be the subject of Dr. George Roseberry's sermon Sunday at First Methodist church. A coffee hour will be held fol lowing the 11 a.m. service at 10 Mistletoe st., by the mem bers of the board of trustees. Members and friends of the church are invited to tour the newly purchased property. Mrs. D. G. MacDougall will be soloist for both morning worship services. She will sing "O Leave Your Sheep." Gideon Service Set in Butte Falls Butte Falls Each year the Gideons of Medford conduct one service in the Butte Falls Community Bible church. Sunday at the 11 a.m. wor ship hour will be the Gideon service. The Sunday school will practice for the Christmas program to be given at the morning Sunday school time Dec. 23. Friday, Dec. 21, at 8 p.m. is the time of the Christmas cantata, "Born a King." pre sented by the Ashland Assem bly of God 30-voice choir in the local Assembly of God church. The Community Bi ble church is also sponsoring this musical event. Word has been received from Mrs. N. B. Stoddard, a 50-y ear member of the church, who moved to Cali fornia last week, that she and Mr. Stoddard are living at 2050 Mendocino ave. in Santa Rosa. St. Luke's Plan Christmas Program The church school of SI. Luke's Methodist church has scheduled its annual Christ mas program for Sunday, at the church. The program will begin at 7 p.m. The Christmas story will be read by Rick Heisel. Scenes from the story will he por trayed by children in the var ious classes. Music will be provided by the junior choir under the direction of Mrs. Claude Griffin and by chil dren in the kindergarten and primary departments. Mrs. Larry Horton and Mrs. Charl es R. McDonald will also as sist with the music. The program is under the direction of Mrs. Bruce Nel son, church school superin tendent, and George Reed, chairman of the commission on education. At the 11 a.m. service Sun day the Rev. Charles R. Mc Donald, pastor of the church, will continue his series of Ad vent sermons when he preach es on the theme: "The Stars Slill Shine." 'Family Christmas' Is Program Theme For Trinity Baptist "A Family Christmas" will be theme of the program to be given during the 11 a.m. worship service at Trinity Baptist church Sunday. Included on the program will be musical numbers, po etry and Scripture readings by children, youth and adults of the church family. Among the items on the program will be an object lesson, "The Gift of God," by Holly Bernston, 10; an instrumental duet, "A Medley of Christmas Hymns," by Roger Hockersmith and Dr. Richard Nordquist; a women's trio, "Room in a Manger," by Loretta Nord. quist, Lorene McCormack, and Dorirs Kautz; and a vocal solo, "Jesu Bambino," by Vio let Hunter. Pastor Bruce Ro gers will close the program with a meditation, "Christ mas - A Family Time." At the 7:30 p.m. hour, after a brief business session, tho adults will hold a discussion of "Christmas Problems" problems faced by Christmas because of the secularization of Christmas in family and buisness life. Kindergarten To Give Annual Event St. Peter's Lutheran church's kindergarten will bn presented in a Christmas pro gram this evening in the base ment auditorium of tha church at 7:30 o'clock. Mrs. Emil Tarns is leacher of this full-t i m e f i v e-day-a-week school. Services will begin at St. Peter's Sunday at 8:15 and 11 a.m. Communion will be cel ebrated in the early service. The pastor, the Rev. John E. Simon, will be in charge of both services. He will also teach the adult Bible class.
