In 1959, a stroke put an end to O'Mahoney's political career. He spent the last three months of the session in the hospital. A westerner with a Boston accent, O'Mahoney's greatest pride was his independence. He was a party regular but strayed from the reservation, particularly to fight former President Franklin D. Roose velt's Supreme Court pack ing plan in 1937. Born in Massachusetts, lie settled in Wyoming and launched his political career in 1932 as a delegate to the Democratic National conven tion that first nominated Franklin Roosevelt. He rose to chair the mili tary appropriations subcom mittee and had a big voice in defense spending prior to 1953. But he once described his principal Senate role ay 'developing the resources of Wyoming and the West." He was chairman of the Senate Interior committee from 1947 to 1952 and did his best to carry out the role. The new procedure will permit Sacred Heart hos pital to supply, quickly and accurately, complete information concerning a patient or former patient to any physician, hospital, or governmental agency upon request. The 63-year-old British-born actor was discharged from Cedars of Lebanon hospital, where doctors said he no longer required the cobalt bomb therapy treatments he had been receiving. However, doctors said Laughton was still in serious condition. ASTRONOMER DIES Sydney, Australia- llMI - Dr. Joseph Pawsey, 54, a leading Australian radio astronomer, died Friday.
