A subcommittee witness al leged this week that Murphy concurred in advance with a memorandum prepared last January by Jacobs who said he was told by his bosses to write a report favorable to Estes' dealings. Lafferfy To Again Try for Signatures Portland -IUPD- Former Or egon Congressman A. W. Laf ferty of Portland failed again here Thursday night to secure a nomination as an independ ent candidate for the U. S. Senate, Lafferty, 87, reconvened a convention in an attempt to collect 250 signatures for a petition to get his name on the November election ballot. The convention was opened Tues day night. He said he would reconvene the convention today at noon and if necessary, would recon vene it Saturday at noon to secure the required number of signatures. Lafferty contends that the 250 persons signing the peti tion do not have to be present at the same time but Jack Thompson of Salem, state elections director, has Indicat ed that they must be present at one time. Lafferty estimated he had 150 signatures from the two meetings.
