Miss Oregon A 19-year-old beauty from the suburban town of Jack sonville has been named Miss Oregon for 1962. This fact is no longer new, and it may be of interest to investigate what kind of talent and charm are necessary to win such a con tent. Martha Louise Wyatt has lived in Jacksonville since she was four years old. The historic town is not new to the family, as her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cov Watson, were married in the United States hotel there many years earlier. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wyatt, 408 South Fourth street, moved their family to Jack sonville from Los Angeles be cause they decided the city was no place to rear children. They have three other chil dren, Robin, 21, Steaven, 17, and Laurie, 12. 'Marty" attended Jackson ville schools through her first two years of high school, when the school district was consolidated with the Medford district. She was graduated from Medford High school in 1961. Gene Denning of the Cave Junction Communi ty church performed the cere mony at 8 o'clock in the eve ning. Sixteen guests attend ed, -Miss Lynn Riggan, Sclnia, was maid of honor and Linda- Lemmon, Cave Junction, idence of the bridegroom's was junior bridesmaid. Stanley Kuil served as best man. Given in marriage by her lather, the bride wore a white lace and satin ballerina length dress. Her shoulder length veil was held by a crown of seed pearls and her bouquet was of yellow and white carnations. The maid of honor was dressed in a pale aquamarine blue brocaded taffeta frock with white accessories, and the junior bridesmaid wore a lavender embossed c o 1 1 e n dress with a gladioli cor "gc. The rooms were decorated with white and yellow glad ioli. The reception given by the bridegroom's parents, was held after the ceremony. Mrs. Roy Dietzler poured and Miss Lemmon and Miss Debbie Robinson had charge of the ?ift table. The cake was serv ed by Mrs. Doris Boyd, aunt of the bridegroom. For the wedding and recep tion the bride's mother wore 1 black suit with white ac cessories and the bridegroom's mother chose a blue print dress which she wore with 'hi!e accessories. Both had white gardenia corsages. The bride attended Sonora, -lif.. High school and both he bride and bridegroom at tended the Illinois Valley High school. Lootens has re cently received his discharge rom the Navy where he serv d as a sonarman on a mine werpfr He is now t the 'owe of his parents in Happy "nitip. 1 Has Many Interests Wyatt registered for classes at Southern Oregon college in Ashland. She completed two terms of her freshman year there, and plans to return to ; school in the fall. Throughout her school years the college beauty has been an active participant in many fields. When a child, she was a member of both 4-H and Girl Scouts. In addition, she took up dancing while in the second grade, taking lesson? until she was in the seventh grade. After that she contin ued to practice on her own. During her senior year in high school Miss Wyatt was voted a Junior Prom princess by members of her class. She also was a member of the choir and of the Thespian group. In March she was named queen of the annual Southern Oregon college sponsored Ore. Cal Skiesta. The queen is elected by a vote of students of participating schools in southern Oregon and north ern California. However, school activities have not taken up all of Miss Wyatt's time. She has done volunteer work in non-denominational church activities for Couple Returns From Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Royal E. Bebb, 528 South Grape street, returned recently from a trip to Carmel and San Francisco, Calif. While in the south the Bebbs and their son, Ward Bebb, played in the annual "Hole in One" golf tourna ment sponsored by the San Francisco Examiner. Mr. and Mrs. Bebb attend ed a performance of "The Music Man'' and a San Fran cisco symplhony orchestra concert while on vacation. Relatives Visit At Bean Home Guests in recent weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Bean, 608 Franquette street, were Mrs. Bean's son. Porter Simcox, Mrs. Simcox and their daughter, Dchby, Vandalia. 111., and Mrs. Carl Meador, Papoka, 111. Also here were Mrs. Bean's grandsons. Bob and Bill Jen nings, Athen, Ohio. Bob Jen nings has spent three recent summers in Medford, and at tended First Methodist church. He will enroll at Yale univer sity this fall to work on a master's degree. Bill Jennings, who recently completed a tour of duty with the United States Marine corps, will en ter a college in Wooster, Ohio, Ihis fall as a freshman. Mothers Plan Coming Events Medford chapter. Blue Star Mothers, held the third annu al picnic recently at the home nf Mrs. Reimcr Peterson. 502 Beatty street. Mrs. O. M. Crory, depart ment legislative chairman for Oregon, was a guest. Mrs. Crory, who now lives in Med- ford, is a member of the ' Grants Pass Chapter. Mrs. Mary Fredricks be 1 came a new member during the meeting. ! In keeping with this is her major field at SOC i social science. The tall bru- Inc'.le has said she would like 1 to enter some kind of social work when she finishes col lege. An outdoor girl, Miss Wyatt enjoys skiing and skindiving, and is also a hiking and horse back riding enthusiast. In ad dition, she finds time for less strenuous pursuits, such as sewing and painting. Job activity has also been a trait of the teenage winner; she has worked at various jobs since in the first years of high school. Babysitting, where she could again work with children, was one way of earning spending money. She has also worked for Burel son's for the past year, both as salesgirl and as a television model. As a result of her friend liness and personality, Miss Wyatt was named Miss Con geniality at the Miss Oregon pageant in Seaside. This award is voted by the mem bers of the contest to one of their contemporaries. In the history of the state pageant, this is the first time the title winner has also been awarded the Miss Congeniality tro phy. To the knowledge of the judges, the award has not gone to the winner in any other state contest either. Miss Wyatt was named Miss Rogue Valley in a Junior Chamber of Commerce spon sored contest early in June. As a result of her selection as Miss Oregon, she will travel to Atlantic City, N. J., in early September to partici pate in the Miss America pageant. On her arrival in Medford after winning the Miss Oregon pageant at Seaside Miss Wyatt was presented many flowers and a key to the city of Jacksonville. Classes at the new Valley View Kindergarten, 121 Valley View Drive, will be held Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mrs. Gandt is a graduate of Wisconsin State college, where her major field was kindergarten primary edu cation. Bryant, Los Angeles. Calif., are lo arrive today from Port land as guests of Mr. Bryant's mother, Mrs. Frances Leish ner, 109 North Ivy street. The couple is making a return vis it here after spending nearly a week with Mrs. Leishner en route to Portland. At that time the group attended Ash land Shakespearean festival plays and made trips about the valey. Mrs. Leishner returned the first of last week from Port land, where she visited rela tives, and Seattle, where she was a guest of a sister, Mrs. N. N. Neilsen. and attended the World's Fair. She was accompanied home by another sister, Mrs. J. H. SHUT Justice Reads Ceremony For Couple Cave Junction - Miss Mau reen Kennedy. Cave Junction, became the bride of Robert E. Neil, Takilma, Ore., in a ceremony held at the home of the bride's parents on Au gust 10. The bride is a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Kennedy, Route 1, Box 170, Cave Junction. The bride groom is a son of Mrs. Ida Neil, Takilma, Ore., and W. T. Neil, San Dimas, Calif. Justice of the Peace Larry Cushing performed the cere mony at 8 o'clock In the eve ning. About 23 guests were present. The home was decorated with colored gladioli. For her marriage the bride wore a white ballerina length gown of lace over satin. Her veil was held by a crown of pearls. She was attended by Mrs. Richard Webb, sis ter in law of the bride groom. Mr. Webb was best man for his brother. For the wedding and re ception the bride's mother wore a green sheath dress with white accessories. The bridegroom's mother chose a sheath of black and white print with matching accesso ries, and both wore white cor sages. The cou ple will make their home in Takilma. The bride attended Ker by schools and was graduated from Illinois Valley High school in 1962. The bride groom also attended Kerby and Illinois Valley schools. He is employed by Donald A. Beard as a logger. He will remain until the end of the month, when he will return lo his station near Long Beach, Calif., where he is serving as an elec tronics technicial third class on the USS Reaper, a mine sweeper. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford gavp an out-door barbecue party at tneir home Saturday evening for friends of their sons. Michael and Patrick Clifford. Patrick Clifford arrived , home earlier this year from I Germany where he had ! served for two years with the Air Force. He had completed three years in the service at ! that time and then received j his discharge.
