Miss Oregon
A 19-year-old beauty from
the suburban town of Jack
sonville has been named Miss
Oregon for 1962. This fact is
no longer new, and it may be
of interest to investigate what
kind of talent and charm are
necessary to win such a con
tent. Martha Louise Wyatt has
lived in Jacksonville since
she was four years old. The
historic town is not new to
the family, as her grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cov
Watson, were married in the
United States hotel there
many years earlier.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wyatt,
408 South Fourth street,
moved their family to Jack
sonville from Los Angeles be
cause they decided the city
was no place to rear children.
They have three other chil
dren, Robin, 21, Steaven, 17,
and Laurie, 12.
'Marty" attended Jackson
ville schools through her first
two years of high school,
when the school district was
consolidated with the Medford
district. She was graduated
from Medford High school in
1961.

white lace and satin ballerina
length dress. Her shoulder
length veil was held by a
crown of seed pearls and her
bouquet was of yellow and
white carnations.
The maid of honor was
dressed in a pale aquamarine
blue brocaded taffeta frock
with white accessories, and
the junior bridesmaid wore a
lavender embossed c o 1 1 e n
dress with a gladioli cor

with white and yellow glad
ioli. The reception given by the
bridegroom's parents, was
held after the ceremony. Mrs.
Roy Dietzler poured and Miss
Lemmon and Miss Debbie
Robinson had charge of the
?ift table. The cake was serv
ed by Mrs. Doris Boyd, aunt
of the bridegroom.
For the wedding and recep
tion the bride's mother wore
1 black suit with white ac
cessories and the bridegroom's
mother chose a blue print
dress which she wore with
'hi!e accessories. Both had
white gardenia corsages.
The bride attended Sonora,
-lif.. High school and both

High school.
The bridegroom is serving

veled to San Diego where

Has Many Interests
Wyatt registered for classes at
Southern Oregon college in
Ashland. She completed two
terms of her freshman year
there, and plans to return to ;
school in the fall.
Throughout her school
years the college beauty has
been an active participant in
many fields. When a child, she
was a member of both 4-H and
Girl Scouts. In addition, she
took up dancing while in the
second grade, taking lesson?
until she was in the seventh
grade. After that she contin
ued to practice on her own.
During her senior year in
high school Miss Wyatt was
voted a Junior Prom princess
by members of her class. She
also was a member of the
choir and of the Thespian
group.
In March she was named
queen of the annual Southern
Oregon college sponsored Ore.
Cal Skiesta. The queen is
elected by a vote of students
of participating schools in
southern Oregon and north
ern California.
However, school activities
have not taken up all of Miss
Wyatt's time. She has done
volunteer work in non-denominational
church activities for

returned recently from a trip
to Carmel and San Francisco,
Calif.
While in the south the
Bebbs and their son, Ward
Bebb, played in the annual
"Hole in One" golf tourna
ment sponsored by the San
Francisco Examiner.
Mr. and Mrs. Bebb attend
ed a performance of "The
Music Man'' and a San Fran
cisco symplhony orchestra
concert while on vacation.

nings, Athen, Ohio. Bob Jen
nings has spent three recent
summers in Medford, and at
tended First Methodist church.
He will enroll at Yale univer
sity this fall to work on a
master's degree. Bill Jennings,
who recently completed a tour
of duty with the United
States Marine corps, will en
ter a college in Wooster,
Ohio, Ihis fall as a freshman.

An outdoor girl, Miss Wyatt
enjoys skiing and skindiving,
and is also a hiking and horse
back riding enthusiast. In ad
dition, she finds time for less
strenuous pursuits, such as
sewing and painting.
Job activity has also been a
trait of the teenage winner;
she has worked at various
jobs since in the first years of
high school. Babysitting,
where she could again work
with children, was one way of
earning spending money. She
has also worked for Burel
son's for the past year, both
as salesgirl and as a television
model.
As a result of her friend
liness and personality, Miss
Wyatt was named Miss Con
geniality at the Miss Oregon
pageant in Seaside. This
award is voted by the mem
bers of the contest to one of
their contemporaries. In the
history of the state pageant,
this is the first time the title
winner has also been awarded
the Miss Congeniality tro
phy. To the knowledge of the
judges, the award has not
gone to the winner in any
other state contest either.
Miss Wyatt was named Miss
Rogue Valley in a Junior
Chamber of Commerce spon
sored contest early in June.
As a result of her selection as
Miss Oregon, she will travel
to Atlantic City, N. J., in
early September to partici
pate in the Miss America
pageant.

plays and made trips about

tives, and Seattle, where she

and Illinois Valley schools.
