Callan, construction engineer. The office is sched uled to close about Sept. 1. ' The bureau has operated in office in White City since 'June, 1956. In addition, a planning office is operated by 1he bureau in the Standard -Insurance building. An additional $438,000 was approved for the Talent proj sct by the House Appropria tions committee Tuesday, which will be used on rehabil itation and betterment of the existing Medford irrigation district, Callan said. This will Jnclude repair work and re placement of structures. In the Talent district, corrections 'will be made on the present system. r There are about six em ployees in the office at this time. Callan said that one or -two would remain in the area after Sept. 1 to take care of lhe concluding work on the Talent project. FRIDAY. Grants Pass Edward W Hare, an Illinois valley ranch er, has been nominated by the Democratic Central com mittee, as a candidate for Josephine county commission er. He was born in Ohio and educated at Ohio State uni versity. During World War II he was employed as an in dustrial engineer at the U.S. Naval Ordinance Plant, Cen terllne, Mich. He also worked in a cost estimating, tool development and time study and operated a real estate brokerage busi ness. Mr. and Mrs. Hare have five children and make their home at 5120 Caves highway. Hare is past president of the Illinois Valley Democrat club and is active in church and civic affairs. He is the owner of his ranch and raises beef cattle. Three more contestants will emerge divisional winners and the 15 seniifinalisls will be named. Another shapely trio was accorded first place honors Thursday night in the evening gown, playsuit and speech in native costume divisions. Miss United States, Carolyn Joyner, 19, Freeport, Kan., topped the evening gown com petition in the second night of preliminary judging. Maria Victoria Bueno, 24, the black haired Miss Argentina, was voted the best of 17 girls in the playsuit category. And a grey-eyed model who reigns as Miss Ireland, Mona Bur rows, 22, won the speech in native dress award. They join three other tantalizing misses who won their divisions in the first night's competition the popular Miss Australia, Tania Verstak, who won the evening gown award; Nurit Neumann, Miss Israel, the playsuit winner; and Miss Scotland, Elizabeth Burns, who won the speech in native dress division. The crucial competition comes Saturday night when the 15 semifinalists will be pared down to five finalists. Barges To Move Molasses, Asphalt Vancouver, Wash. CUPIl In land Navigation Co. said to day it would soon begin trans portation of bulk molasses and liquid asphalt up the Co lumbia river from Portland to Pasco. Wash., and Umatilla, Ore. John L. Bullock, president of the firm, said new tank farm facilities for storage and distribution of the commodi ties are being constructed at Pasco and Umatilla. Molasses will be pumped from ships which bring it lo Portland into special tanks on barges. At Pasco the molasses will be pumped into a new 5,000-barrcl tank for storage ano nisiriDiuion oy racuic molasses Co. for use in pre paring livestock feeds. The bulk asphalt will be loaded into a special 168,000- gallon lank barge at the American Bitumals Co. plant here and at Umatilla will be stored in a heated 7,000-barrel tank for distribution for use in highway work. . A ' SI. m 4&. C re- p7v Building Firm To Open Next Week A construction firm special izing in "building better homes" in the Rogue Valley will open for business here early next week. James B. Berry of Napa, Calif., and Ray. W. Lind blom, route 1, box 78, Eagle Point, has assumed the busi ness name B and L Custom Homes. Their offices are at 601 West McAndrews rd., Medford. Berry has been here about three weeks, and reports the firm is almost ready to open. He previously operated a home building service in Cali fornia. (UPI) Bonneville Center Officially Opened Vancouver, Wash. - IIIPD -Bonneville Power Administra tion officially dedicated a $1 million center north of here today, in ceremonies coupled with a 25th birthday open house. The agency was created 25 years ago next Monday. The new consolidated sup ply service center is located at BPA's J. D. Ross substation three miles north of here. BPA administrator Charles F. Luce said the consolidated center would save BPA some $100,000 a year. He said more than $10 million worth of general contract supplies would move through the cen ter annually. The center replaces ship yard storage areas. Vancouver Mayor Rudolph Luepke said the new center makes BPA one of Vancou ver's most important industries.
