Sheldon, Davies Nab RVCC Honors Jim Sheldon poked in an under-pressure clutch putt on the 36th green yesterday then won the extra 37th hole with a birdie four to retain his ti tle in the men's club cham pionship tournament at Rogue Valley Country club. He nicked Dr. Ralph Odell In the tournament finale. Mrs. Helen Davies garner ed the "women's crown, trim ming Mrs. Maxine Hammond 12 and 11 in a final begun Saturday and completed yes terday afternoon. Odell, who once erased a three-hole deficit, was never up again?t Sheldon but on the 36th hole it looked like he might have the match in the bag. The surgeon knocked in a birdie putt on the par four hole from about 30 feet above the cup. That created a "must" situation for Sheldon who was on the green in two strokes to the right and down hill some 17 feet from the .cup. And, he sank the putt. 2 Up In Morning The credit service man closed out with a three-foot putl on the extra green. A ikied second shot used up a stroke for Odell. When he came close but missed on a 12-foot putt and Sheldon sank his shorter one the match was over. Sheldon was 2 up after the morning round but was bare ly outstroked by Odell in the afternoon. With the exception of the 12th hole, on which Sheldon knocked two balls out of bounds, picked up and conceded to his rival, the de fending champ was even par for the morning. Odell was re ported three over. In the aft ernoon, Sheldon was one un der par and Odell two under. The doctor stroked a 70 for the regulation 18 in the aft ernoon and Sheldon was even par with 72 before the extra hole bird. Mrs. Davies, an often-time club titlist, wound up her match with a par five on the No. 8 green, the 26th hole of the match. She had an 11 up lead after 18 holes on Satur day. Margin Cut She made it 12 up with par nn the first Sunday green. Mrs. Hammond, rose up hi nab the next hole with a bird. The ladies halved the next three holes. On the sixth hole of Sunday play Mrs. Hammond shrank her deficit to 10 with a par. On the next two holes Mrs. Davies won Safety THE GENERAL TIRE Monday ONLY w Hei'e's What We do . . . The two women, contend ing while in a foursome yes terday with Mrs. Robert Tem pleton and Mrs. Mahr Rey mers continued to play out the course. For the frontside nine Mrs. Davies was two over par with a 40 and Mrs. Hammond had a 42. On Sat urday, while establishing her wide lead, Mrs. Davies stroke a 78, three over ladies' par. Sheldon and Odell halved their way through the first four afternoon holes. Sheldon took the next hole with a par when Odell had trap trouble. That made the match 3 up for Sheldon after 23 holes. Won Three Straight Odell came back to square the tussle by winning three straight holes. He took ad vantage of Sheldon's tran troubles to capture No. 24 (No. 6 green) with a par. The doctor clubbed in a 15 fool putt for a birdie three on 25 and took 26 with a birdie four. Twelve and six-foot putts kept Sheldon from falling be hind on the next two holes. The champ then went 1 up on the 29th hole of the match. He was over the green off the tee but put a six foot putt for a par. Odell was in the mud and weeds at the edge of the pond. His out was well executed but he went by the hole and was short on a long curving putt coming back. Odell evened the tiff on the 30th hole when he put in his two-foot putt for a par and Sheldon, who had more trouble getting to the green, rimmed a 3'2-footer to take a bogey. Chip Just Short The next three greens were halved. On 31, "a 25-yard Sheldon chip stopped an inch from the cup. Odell rimmed the hole on a long chip on 33. The gallery gasped as the ball spun around the cup on his one-foot poke. But, the pellet dropped in. Sheldon won 34 (No. 16 hole on the layout). His drive off the tee went onto the adjoining green but he pitch ed up neatly on his ihrid shot and punched in a nine-fool putt for a birdie four. Odell chipped short on his third shot. The doctor got even again on 35. He was on the green on two, barely missed a 10- foot putt and was conceded a shorty putl. Sheldon was short on a two-foot putl and bogied. -WAY AUTO Service SPECIAL thru Friday $088 MOST CARS (T) BRAKES Pull Front Whetls Inspect Linings Inspect Wheel Cylinders, Seals Check Pedal Pressure Add Fluid, If needed Check, inspect emergency brake linkage ALIGNMENT Check Caster, Camber Adjust Toe-in, Toe-out Inspect Steering Mechanism SHOCKS Check for wear Check recovery factor Check for weak spots, leaks, damage (g) TIRES Rotate 5 tires Inspect treads, sidewaMs for injury Inflate to proper pressure Replace missing or leaky valve covers GENERAL TIRE SERVICE MEDFORD 1112 Court St. 773-8255 MEDFORD MEDFORDkWTRIBUNB SIPCOMTS Salem's Dodgers Sweep Pair From Eugene Ems United Press International The front - running Salem Dodgers continued their win ning form Sunday by sweep ing a Northwest league base ball doubleheader from the Eugene Emeralds.
