Not-Too-Easy Card Trick By Betty Kahn
You don't need cards for this trick.
Just think them. But remember their
values jack equals 11; queen, 12; king,
13; ace, 1. Remember, too, clubs equal
six; diamonds, seven; hearts, eight;
spades, nine. Tell a friend you can guess
what card he's thinking of.
First, he thinks of a card. Then he
must add to it the number of the next
higher card. He multiplies the total by
five, then adds the value of his suit
(clubs, six, etc.).

Ask what number he has attained.
Then you mentally subtract five and tell
him the card he thought of.
For instance, let's say he thinks of the
two of clubs. He adds three, next higher.
Two and three equal five. He multiplies
by five. Five times five are 25. Add the
suit value 25 plus 6 equals 31. He tells
you 31, and you mentally subtract five,
which is 26. The first figure is the card
he was thinking of, and the second figure
is his suit.

As the game starts, the leader holds the penny. Each player
holds out his hands, palm to palm. The leader pretends to drop
his penny into each pair of hands. The one who gets the coin
is chased by the others as soon as they suspect he has it.
When he returns it to the leader, and only then, he is safe.
If he does, he becomes the next leader. By the way, if the play
ers don't know whom to suspect, the leader tells them who
has the coin. The chase then begins!
