OREGON Area Goodwill Tour Delegates to Leave Mr. and Mrs. N a t Etzel Eagle Point, will leave Port land July 16 as hosts for the first annual Oregon Future Farmers ol America People to People Goodwill agricultural delegation tour of eastern and western Europe. Etzel is FFA advisor at Eagle Point High school and vocational agricultural in structor there. The delegation, which in cludes two Jackson county youths and a total of 16 Ore gon FFA members, will visit England, France, Scotland, Po land, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. The People to Peo ple program was originated by former president Dwight D. Eisenhower. Help Finance Trip Leaving from Jackson coun ty also will be John B. Pal rick and Larry F. Richcy, Eagle Point and Phoenix FFA members, respectively. Organizations helping to fi nance Patrick's trip include the Jackson County Farm Bureau Federation, Pomona Grange, Eagle Point, Central Point, Gold Hill, Sams Valley, Roxy Ann, Lake Creek, Upper Rogue, and Shady Cove Gran ges, the Eagle Point Lions, Medford Lions, Shady Cove Trail Lions, Antelope 4-H club, Shady Cove Rotary, Eagle Point and Central Point Jayvces, Grange Co-op, Jack son county soil conservation service, Johnny Minor, Har per Logging, both of Shady Cove, and others. Relatives are helping to fi nance Richcy's trip. Estimated cost per person is $1,347. Tour highlights will include one of the largest livestock agricultural shows In Europe, "Tunbridge Wells East Coun ty Agriculture Show" near London, farm inspection tours near London, visit to a rural youth camp in the Prague area, a dinner meeting with members of t h e Hungarian Agriculture Society, and in specion of French farming op erations near Paris. Purpose of the tour is "To give the Future Farmers of Oregon an opportunity to car ry a message of Goodwill to the farm youth and associated trades people in Europe, espe cially in the Communist dom- j inated sections; to see and in spect typical agricultural op-' erations, to learn something of the conditions that exist and to have an enjoyable holiday visiting with young people j who are delegates of their countries," according to the tour booklet. Senators Urge Steps To Protect Fruit Exports Dennis the Menace Washington - Sen. Wayne Morse (D-Ore.) has joined 17 other senators In urging the U.S. Stale department to take "vigorous steps" to protect foreign markets for U.S. fruit exports. The bi-partisan group of Congressmen specifically urged removal of non-tariff barriers on fruit exports to Britain, Europe and Scandi navian countries, and holding down of tariffs on U.S. fruit if and when Great Britain is admitted to the Common Mar ket. The Senators, in correspon dence to Under Secretary of Stale George W. Ball, claimed the major market tariff bar riers are seasonal restrictions, quotas and licensing, unrea sonable packaging require ments, and delayed announce ments of opening dales. fJW START RUNNIN'I M CON't FORGET TO 'MOO '' Revival Scheduled In Jacksonville Jacksonville - A three-day revival jubilee will be held this week at the Jacksonville Community hall starting Tues day, July 17, at 7:30 p.n.. Speakers will be the Rev. and Mrs. Richard Ekstedt. They will be accompanied by their two sons, Daniel and Stanley, who are musicians. The services, interdenomi national, will be held Tues day, Wednesday and Thursday. Referring lo Great Britain joining the Common Market, the group said, "We want to be sure that the existing com monwealth (tariffs) prefer ences will not be extended to other Common Market coun tries and will be progressive ly eliminated without detri ment to U.S. fruit exports. "The United Kingdom is an extremely important market for U.S. fruit. The present UK market favored national tar iffs are considerably below the external tariffs of the ! Common Market for most of these items." The Senators stressed that i the State Department should act to insure that the "compe titive purchase of U.S. export ers in relation to Common wealth suppliers is not im paired at any time."
