Senators Urge Steps To
Protect Fruit Exports
Dennis the Menace
Washington - Sen. Wayne
Morse (D-Ore.) has joined 17
other senators In urging the
U.S. Stale department to take
"vigorous steps" to protect
foreign markets for U.S. fruit
exports.
The bi-partisan group of
Congressmen specifically
urged removal of non-tariff
barriers on fruit exports to
Britain, Europe and Scandi
navian countries, and holding
down of tariffs on U.S. fruit
if and when Great Britain is
admitted to the Common Mar
ket. The Senators, in correspon
dence to Under Secretary of
Stale George W. Ball, claimed
the major market tariff bar
riers are seasonal restrictions,
quotas and licensing, unrea
sonable packaging require
ments, and delayed announce
ments of opening dales.
